Job Summary:
The Welder & Fabricator is responsible for creating metal structures, components, and equipment used in construction. This position works closely with project managers, and other skilled tradespeople to ensure that all welding and fabrication work meets project specifications. The Welder & Fabricator works with the dynamic construction team on unique and innovative building projects around picturesque Lake Sunapee. This position operates independently and does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Primary Duties:
Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications to determine the appropriate welding and fabrication techniques.
Welds various materials (steel, aluminum, stainless steel, etc.) using a range of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, Arc, etc.).
Fits, sets, and installs fabricated structures.
Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged.
Inspects and tests welded joints and fabricated components to ensure integrity and quality; ensures all welding work meets the necessary industry standards and codes (e.g., AWS).
Keeps accurate records of materials used, welding procedures, and any modifications made during projects.
Follows the construction quality standard throughout the entire building process.
Keeps track of project timelines.
Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines.
Communicates materials needed to the designated site foreman or project manager.
Checks and maintains company equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.
Maintains a clean and organized work area free from safety hazards.
Utilizes work order and purchase order processes as outlined by Relax & Company protocols.
Based on project schedule deadline needs, some occasional weekend or overtime work may be necessary.
Skills:
Proficiency in various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.) and strong knowledge of metal fabrication methods.
Strong understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints.
Proficient knowledge of machines and tools used in welding, including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods.
Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
Strong communication skills.
The ability to do basic to advanced math is necessary.
Must be adaptable and a problem-solver.
Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
Ability to use hand tools, including but not limited to grinders, bevelers, and drills.
Working knowledge of welding safety standards and best practices.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a vocational or trade school program in welding.
OSHA 10 certification is desired.
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the trade required.
Experience working in the construction environment preferred.
Experience with structural steel and custom metal fabrications preferred.
Licenses & Certificates:
Valid driver’s license required.
AWS Structural Welding certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Physical stamina for outdoor and indoor projects in various weather conditions.
Ability to use hands, fingers and wrists to grip, twist and bend to operate controls.
Prolonged periods of standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
Must safely lift and maneuver 50 pounds independently, with assistance required for weights exceeding this limit.
