What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatcher 2nd SHIFT position at Relay Express, Inc?
Relay Express is a 24/7 Logistical Solutions Provider, with headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio. We are currently looking for a full-time 2nd shift Dispatcher. The shift is Monday- Friday, 1430-2300. The ideal candidate should have a background in fast-paced environments including experience with multi-line phones, and computer proficiency including Word and Excel. Individuals must be able to work in a self-motivated manner. This is a key operational position with the opportunity to advance and grow with the company.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Have a complete understanding of Relay Express’ services and the parameters of various service types.
- Understand the various details and expectations of each unique customer’s SOP.
- Develop a strong geographic understanding of Relay Express’ operating markets, as well as the mix of business in each location and the individual driver fleets.
- Constantly verify the status of the capacity in assigned driver fleets to understand your coverage options prior to orders coming into the system, not reacting to orders as they are placed.
- Complete driver pre-check calls two hours prior to stated report time to confirm understanding and availability.
- Dispatch orders in real-time to the best contractor resource based on the customer’s specific parameters, including but not limited to:
o Desired pickup and delivery time constraints.
o Volume and dimensions of the product/freight to be moved.
o Any special concerns.
- Track drivers proactively through the day using GPS and dispatch tools and maintaining phone contact at specified intervals to ensure on time pickup and delivery.
- Work closely with the Customer Service Representative for your shift and division to ensure proactive communication with customers in regard to any and all delays or issues.
- Enter detailed information for arrival and departure times, bill of lading and freight counts and proof of delivery information in orders in real-time as they are completed.
- Communicate regularly with Branch Managers to understand any specific constraints or opportunities related to the IC fleets, including IC revenue targets or any issues presented by the contractors.
- Exhibit a commitment to Safety including use of ELD software to ensure FMCSR compliance.
- Ability to work by the guidelines of Relay Express’ Social Covenant, defining the expectations of respect and compassion in your interactions with co-workers.
Warehouse/Distribution Responsibilities:
Follow customer specific SOP and ensure all inbound and outbound deliveries are completed daily.·
Assist in keeping the warehouse looking professional, clean, safe, and organized daily.· Sign for and complete all incoming and inbound deliveries according to customer requirements during assigned shift.
- Pull parts for all outgoing orders, making sure to follow all specific requirements. Example: correct quantity, contact names, part numbers, serial numbers, return packs, etc.
- Maintain professional attire, language and business demeanor in all dealings with customers, employees and vendors.
Experience and skill requirements:
- Experience in fast-paced dispatch, customer service or phone centers.
- Ability to multi-task through phone communications and real-time software-based tracking and dispatch systems.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office proficiency and the ability to become expert in the company’s dispatch platform.
- Desire to work independently and proactively to support the overall team Dispatch Operations goals.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with the driver fleet.
- Professional image and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing customer needs and driver availability.
- Ability to manage multiple factors in a high stress environment.

- Pay: $22
- Hours: 2:30PM-11PM M-F
