Director of Product Marketing

Relay
Boston, MA Full Time
POSTED ON 4/22/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/21/2025
Our mission is to increase the success rate of small businesses. Traditional banking has been a growth limiter rather than a growth enabler for business owners, and we’re changing that. Relay is the all-in-one, collaborative money management platform. We’re building for employer SMBs and their finance function, internal and external, and are focused on delivering a human-centric customer experience. Ultimately, we help SMBs be ‘on the money'.

Relay is looking for a highly creative, empathetic and analytical Director of Product Marketing to join and lead our growing Product Marketing team. You will be responsible for driving Relay’s Product Marketing strategy, championing the voice of our customers, and building a strong product marketing organization.

Relay’s Product Marketing team is hyper-focused on ensuring our small business customers derive as much value from our platform as possible. Working closely with key stakeholders across Relay, the Product Marketing Team drives positioning and messaging, product launches, pricing and packaging, market research, competitive intelligence and other initiatives that accelerate our mission of helping entrepreneurs build healthy, cash-flow-positive businesses.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the go-to-market strategies for new features and product launches. You’ll manage a team of product marketers responsible for key product lines and features, like core banking and expense management.
  • Hire, train, and develop a high-performing Product Marketing team; support team members’ growth and professional development.
  • Build a deep understanding of Relay’s customers and bring the voice of the customer into all product marketing initiatives
  • Build strong relationships with key cross functional stakeholders in product, sales, demand generation, enablement, customer success, and other key teams
  • Champion product marketing (and our customers!) to the rest of the company and drive alignment for product and feature launches
  • Inform and help develop the product roadmap by bringing core insights on customer pain points and jobs to be done
  • Leverage customer knowledge to craft positioning and messaging that meaningfully resonates with our market and users. You’ll own “the voice of the customer” and take key inputs from your team to develop this
  • Own Relay’s messaging and positioning, and make messaging improvements and updates where necessary
  • Influence product direction by building and socializing deep insights into our market. Conduct comprehensive customer, market and competitive analysis that leverages both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Own quarterly/annual planning, metrics and KPI reporting for product marketing
  • Lead with influence, and be a player-coach to your team

Who You Are

  • You have 10 years of experience in working product marketing—ideally in a startup environment.
  • You have at least 5 years of management experience where you were responsible for a Product Marketing team’s performance.
  • You have successfully launched and driven adoption for a new product or feature, and you can speak to tangible business and customer outcomes of your work.
  • You’re a storyteller. You know how to craft and tell a story that resonates with and influences cross-functional stakeholders and customers.
  • You love talking to and deeply understanding your customers, and you can extrapolate both functional, compelling messaging and product ideas from your customer conversations and research.
  • You’ve been—and relish in being—a trusted resource for questions related to your customers, product, upcoming releases and how to effectively market and sell your product.
  • You’ve built strong partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders and see stakeholder management as a key PMM responsibility
  • You have superior project management skills. You can lead and influence multiple cross-functional partners to work with urgency and to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • You can determine KPIs work independently with the data team to generate high-quality reports to track progress against goals.
  • You’re seasoned in product lifecycle management, from pre-launch to post-launch, and aligning marketing efforts at each stage.

  • Previous experience working in fintech
  • Previous experience working with small business customers
