Travel Commercial Lighting Technician
($18 - $22 per hour based on experience, passing a criminal background check and having a clean driving record)
The Commercial Lighting Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of lighting systems in various commercial settings. The technician ensures that lighting systems are functioning optimally, energy-efficient, and meet the client’s requirements. This role involves performing scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting electrical issues, retrofitting outdated lighting systems, parking and exterior lighting repair and replacement, and upgrading to modern solutions such as LED lighting.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation of Lighting Systems:
- Install new lighting systems (interior and exterior) in commercial and industrial environments, including offices, retail spaces, and warehouses.
- Mount, wire, and connect light fixtures, ballasts, and control systems (e.g., timers, dimmers, motion sensors).
- Ensure installations comply with local and national electrical codes.
Lighting Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on lighting systems, including replacing bulbs, ballasts, and fixtures as needed.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues such as flickering lights, power failures, or wiring problems, and repair them in a timely manner.
- Perform lighting system audits and recommend repairs or upgrades for energy efficiency.
Energy-Efficient Upgrades:
- Retrofit outdated lighting systems with energy-efficient solutions such as LED lights and advanced control systems.
- Implement smart lighting solutions, including occupancy sensors, daylight sensors, and automated lighting controls to optimize energy use.
- Provide recommendations to clients on how to reduce energy consumption and improve lighting quality.
Electrical & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure that all lighting installations are in compliance with electrical codes, safety regulations, and building standards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical systems, lighting technology advancements, and energy-saving regulations.
- Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with electrical components and at heights.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in working with commercial lighting systems, including fluorescent, incandescent, HID, and LED technologies.
- Strong understanding of electrical wiring, circuits, and systems.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient lighting retrofits and upgrades.
- Experience with control systems such as dimmers, timers, and smart lighting solutions.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift heavy equipment and climb ladders or work in elevated areas.
- Comfortable working in various environments, including confined spaces and outdoors in various weather conditions.
Attention to Detail: Careful and precise when working with electrical components to ensure safety and compliance.
Travel:
This is a 100% travel position, 6-8 weeks on the road at a time. Hotels and per diem are paid.
A valid drivers license
Able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening is required
Construction/ Concrete experience is extremely helpful with the parking lot lighting teams
