Job Summary
The Plumbing Drain Technician is responsible for diagnosing and resolving drain clogs in residential and commercial properties by utilizing specialized equipment like drain snakes, hydro jetters, and inspection cameras, performing necessary repairs to drain lines, and maintaining a clean and well-stocked service vehicle while adhering to all safety protocols and company standard.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist with diagnosing problems and/or failures in plumbing systems.
- Educate customers on proper maintenance practices to prevent future drainage issues.
- Keep tools and equipment organized and well-maintained.
- Locate and clear drain clogs in sinks, tubs, showers, toilets, floor drains, and other plumbing fixtures using various drain cleaning tools.
- Operate electric drain snakes, high-pressure water jetters, and sewer inspection cameras to diagnose and clear blockages.
- Perform basic drain cleaning procedures on small to large sized drains.
- Identify the cause of drain issues, including broken pipes, tree root intrusion, or pipe damage.
- Perform minor repairs to drain lines, such as pipe patching or replacement.
- Assess the need for more extensive repairs and coordinate with other technicians when necessary.
- Respond promptly to service calls and emergency situations.
- Properly maintain and clean all drain cleaning equipment, including inspection cameras, jetters, and drain snakes.
- Adhere to all safety procedures when operating drain cleaning equipment and working in potentially hazardous environments.
- Follow local plumbing codes and regulations.
- Ensure service vehicle is stocked with necessary parts, tools, and supplies.
- Abide by all company standards of performance and code of ethics.
- Maintaining a courteous demeanor with all customers and associates.
- Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment at all times.
- Follow department policies and procedures related to assigned duties.
- Attend department meetings.
- Follow quality standards and comply in accordance with rules, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist in other tasks and duties as assigned by manager.
Education, Experience, Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- 2 years of Prior experience as a plumbing technician or drain cleaner.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Basic understanding of plumbing systems, pipe layouts, and drain cleaning techniques.
- Ability to perform multiple technical tasks to include operating equipment, adhering to safety practices, and planning/managing projects.
- Ability to maneuver in crawl spaces, attics, and utility areas.
- Climb ladders of varying heights.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools used in the plumbing trade.
- Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency in basic mathematics and conversion of measurements
- Familiar with plumbing tools and equipment.
- Ability to work after hours, over weekends, and on holidays with short or no notice.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
