Job Responsibilities and Requirements
In partnership with the Underwriting and Group Insurance Operations department and other functional areas, the Strategy and Operations Underwriting Consultant works as part of the team that is responsible for driving the transformation of our core systems and related Underwriting and Group Insurance Operations processes, with a focus on front-end rating, proposal development and general underwriting guidelines and best practices. The Strategy and Operations Underwriting Consultant works on key Underwriting and Group Insurance Operations projects to help develop best practices in risk and pricing through more sophisticated use of data, technology, analytics, and reporting.
Systems Transformation, Implementation, and Continuity
- Assists in the core system transformation work efforts, including (but not limited to) :
Working directly with IS and other functional areas to help identify the areas along the customer lifecycle where RSLI will deliver a differentiated experience.
Assist with business requirements to address changes in process and new product development.Assist in the assessment, simplification and streamlining of current underwriting processes to ensure new rating and technology is fully optimized (e.g., plan design, risk controls, etc.).Support and participate in the training and change management efforts necessary for UW and Pre-Sale to function at a high level during the core systems transformation process.Support integration of new processes into Underwriting and Pre-Sale workflows and Best Practices.This will require staying apprised of regulatory updates provided by Compliance and collaborating with Compliance to ensure system functionality is aligned with state-specific requirements.Content Management
In collaboration with other functional departments and with Underwriting and Pre-Sale Management, this person will play a key project role with providing technical expertise for and leading the Underwriting and Group Insurance Operations department in the development and maintenance of content. This will require staying apprised of regulatory updates provided by Compliance and collaborating with Compliance to ensure content is aligned with state-specific requirements.External-Facing System Generated Documents (including but not limited to) -

Assist Actuarial and Underwriting and Pre-Sale management efforts to enable and advance the use of new models including but not limited to predictive analytics, renewal and implementation projections.Collaborates with Actuarial, Product, Sales and Claims to obtain data extracts from IS that may influence and assist with updates to guidelines / best practices associated with quoting, rating, proposing and new business processing.Product Development
Providing assistance in product development and related project efforts, including, but not limited to :Statutory Disability and PFML
Supplemental Health and life insurance productsLTD and STD products including contract re-writes and filingsAD and D and Special Risk ProductsMatrix ServicesRequired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and / or Related Experience
Bachelor of Science in Business, Risk Management or other related area.4 years' experience in Underwriting, Contracts or related field.Through understanding of manual rating, including base rates and factors that drive claims cost changes.Displays strong understanding of experience rating methodology, and is beginning to understand factors that contribute to aggressive or conservative formula rates.Understands PACS, EIS, Salesforce, DataMart, Vue and other related (or comparable) systems.Working knowledge of contract issuance, compliance, and new customer implementation procedures.Possesses some project management acumen, and has a desire to grow and develop this skill set.Demonstrated attention to detail.Strong organizational skills; able to prioritize work with limited oversight.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Displays basic knowledge of excel, power point and other Microsoft office applications.The expected hiring range for this position is $78,290.00 - $104,520.00 annually for work performed in the primary location (Philadelphia, PA). This expected hiring range covers only base pay and excludes any other compensation components such as commissions or incentive awards. The successful candidate's starting base pay will be based on several factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Work location may be flexible if approved by the Company.
