We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled 23-Hour Crisis Counselor (Qualified Mental Health Professional, or QMHP) to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in providing immediate crisis intervention services for individuals experiencing mental health crises. The Crisis Counselor will work directly with clients to assess their needs, provide stabilization services, and develop short-term care plans, while maintaining a supportive and professional environment. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation, meeting required deadlines, and actively participating in ongoing training and supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Crisis Intervention and Client Support - Provide immediate, short-term crisis intervention services to individuals experiencing emotional, psychological, or behavioral distress.
Utilize crisis de-escalation techniques to ensure client safety and stabilization in high-pressure or high-risk situations.
Assess clients’ immediate needs, mental health status, and level of distress through clinical interviews, screenings, and evaluations.
Develop individualized crisis intervention plans based on assessment, focusing on the immediate resolution of crisis situations and providing emotional support during the intervention process.
Work collaboratively with clients to establish therapeutic goals and identify coping mechanisms for managing acute symptoms.
Ensure that clients have access to appropriate resources and community referrals as necessary, such as mental health services, housing support, or medical care.
Documentation and Reporting - Complete detailed and accurate client documentation, to include progress notes and any critical incident reports.
Submit client notes within 24 hours after service delivery, ensuring all information is documented thoroughly and in compliance with agency standards.
Once the discharge is complete, submit a comprehensive discharge summary to the Program Director within 24 hours, outlining the client's treatment plan, progress, and any follow-up recommendations.
All documentation must be submitted to the Program Director for review and approval, ensuring compliance with agency policies and regulatory
Collaboration and Coordination - Work closely with the program team, including other counselors, case managers, and clinical staff, to coordinate care for clients.
Liaise with other healthcare providers, community resources, and family members to ensure clients receive comprehensive support and follow-up care after the crisis intervention.
Coordinate with emergency services, law enforcement, and medical professionals as necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of clients during high-risk situations.
Program Development and Quality Assurance - Participate in monthly training sessions conducted by the Program Director to enhance clinical knowledge and improve crisis intervention skills.
Actively engage in team meetings, providing feedback on program practices and contributing to ongoing program development.
Follow established protocols and procedures to maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and agency policies.
Ensure that all client data and records are kept confidential in accordance with HIPAA and other applicable regulations.
Qualifications:
· A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
· Must be a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) as defined by state and agency regulations.
· At least 1-2 years of experience in mental health crisis intervention, counseling, or a related field.
