Overview
Relief Nursery provides comprehensive family support services that are easily accessible to families who are raising children birth through five years of age and who are experiencing high levels of stress. We provide early intervention that centers on building successful and resilient children and strengthening parents. Our staff work as a team to provide a unique array of support, from therapeutic classrooms and outreach programs, to parenting education, substance use disorder recovery support and more.
We have an opening within our Accessing Success team for a Peer Support Specialist. This position will work with both Relief Nursery parents and participants involved with Springfield Municipal Adult and Treatment Recovery Court (SMART).
Accessing Success, our Substance Use Disorder and recovery support team, provides drug and alcohol intake services, counseling, parenting classes, peer support, childcare, transportation, and social skill activities to help parents achieve and maintain recovery. Peer support will consist of, and not be limited to home visits, court support, telephone contacts, transportation, referrals and advocacy. Peer Support Specialists must maintain a personal recovery program, as well as model recovery-appropriate behavior. Former graduates of the treatment court process are encouraged to apply. Minimum Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Familiarity with substance abusing population and people with disabilities
3. Must be able to demonstrate continuous sobriety under nonresidential care for one year
4. Access to vehicle with valid driver’s license and proof on insurance with ability to meet agency requirements
5. Familiarity with community programs and resources for treatment, recovery support, housing, employment, and other support services
6. No pending or unresolved criminal charges or are on active probation or parole
7. Ability to work cooperatively with supervisor/collaborative team and maintain frequent contact
8. Communicate clearly, concisely and effectively orally in writing and in a timely manner
9. Work well with parents and children of diverse backgrounds
10. Work independently and as a team member
11. Ability to function in crisis situations
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications refer to job-related education or training, experience, skills, etc. that are beneficial to the position and Relief Nursery, but not a requirement for the position.
1. Bilingual in English and Spanish
2. Current CRM or CADC,
3. Associate degree in SUD field, human services, social work, or related field
4. Experience working with the Criminal Justice System
5. Experience and knowledge of Treatment Court setting
Responsibilities
1. Support individuals where they are at in their recovery journey. This may include:
a. Telephone contact with clients
b. Provide client transportation to remove barriers
c. Provide support for clients during social activities, community engagements, and recovery meetings
d. Home visits
e. Serve as a family advocate and liaison with community partners
2. Maintain current knowledge of substance use and detoxification; community resources and recovery programs.
3. Must have Certified Recovery Mentor Certification within 6 months of hire date
4. Attend group activities to ensure that they are sufficiently supervised and cohesive
5. Attend program and staff meetings and weekly supervision meetings with Program Supervisor
6. Meet program standard to make contact with all clients within 48 hours of referral
7. Maintain referrals, notes and files of all contacts regarding client in a timely manner
8. Complete all required Relief Nursery trainings, including Relief Nursery bus and van driver training and fill in for transportation staff on an occasional basis
9. Set up and clean-up of Relief Nursery classes, evening groups, and other support groups
10. Perform other duties as assigned by STC and/or Relief Nursery supervisor
