Background

Founded in 2007, Global Emergency Group, Inc. (GEG) is a benefit corporation that supports vulnerable people affected by crisis in 52 countries by providing a broad range of humanitarian support services to a wide range of organizations, including the United Nations, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, donor governments, companies, major international and national NGO’s and local communities.

The GEG headquarters is near Winchester, Virginia with a global team based all over the world. GEG currently has a global team of 60 people (full-time and part-time personnel).

Requirements Overview

GEG has on-going consistent human resources and talent management requirements. The HR Lead is the organizational focal point for all HR-related systems, processes and functions. S/he will report to the GEG CEO and work closely with the GEG Director of Talent/Recruiter, the Finance team and the Field Program Directors.

Scope of Work

Position Description

The HR Lead will be responsible for leading, guiding, directing and managing GEG’s human resources.

The HR Lead Will

  • Serve as the HR lead and focal point for GEG employees and consultants.
  • Build and create standard operating procedures and workflows for various elements of HR functions, as needed.
  • Work closely with GEG’s focal points for compliance, finance and recruiting to ensure key elements of HR are appropriately incorporated and streamlined.
  • Recommend adjustments and improvements to GEG management including procedures, policies, and standards.
  • Ensure that all employee agreements and consultant contracts meet the requirements of GEG and GEG partners, including drafting contracts, managing their execution and storage, as well as any extensions or modifications.
  • Further the development of GEG’s benefits package (insurance and 401k) in coordination with the GEG brokers and coordinate/communicate the offerings to GEG employees/consultants.
  • Develop a performance and development strategy, as well as a suite of training solutions for the GEG team.
  • Lead the onboarding and orientation processes for all new GEG employees and consultants.
  • Ensure GEG compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations.
  • Support the finalization of the GEG employee handbook.
  • Manage and service the HR email account, ensuring timely response to all messages/inquiries.
  • Own, consolidate, and manage file storage systems for safely and securely storing all HR related information, with particular attention to safety, security and privacy of confidential documents and personal information.
  • Support and backstop as necessary the GEG Director of Talent/Recruiter in various elements of recruitment, including the posting of positions, the gathering of applications, and any other areas needing support.
  • Support GEG in meeting the highest levels of client satisfaction.
  • Remain accessible to the GEG team as a human resources specialist.
  • Lead, manage, and coordinate with other HR team members as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required

Position Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: BS 2 Years, MS 0 , or HS 6
  • 5 years proven experience in HR management
  • A sound understanding of human resources best practices, policies and systems
  • A good knowledge and application of contract employment
  • Experience of staff onboarding
  • Proven experience in operational HR in humanitarian crises
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent communications skills – written and verbal
  • A commitment to humanitarian principles
  • Proven ability to contribute to a strong team
  • A demonstrated high level of personal responsibility, self-motivation and leadership ability
  • Demonstrated professional aptitude that includes, but is not limited to, being responsible, disciplined, adaptable, accountable, client-focused and having a strong work ethic
  • “Can-Do” attitude and ability to overcome significant challenges by using problem-solving techniques, open-mindedness and adaptability
  • Strong team, problem-solving and inter-personal skills

Desirable

  • 2 years experience working at field level in humanitarian emergencies
  • Previous experience working domestically in HR within the U.S.
  • Sound knowledge of US labor law

Working Conditions

The consultancy is work-from-home, and should ideally be either full-time or close to full time, with an expectation that s/he will be online and work for at least 50% of normal Washington DC working hours.
