Our client, a reputable scrap metal processing company in Harrisburg, is looking for a Yard Inspector to join their team. This is an entirely outdoor position in a scrap yard environment where you will be exposed to heat, cold, rain, and snow. This position is not suitable for individuals who are uncomfortable working in extreme weather conditions.
Shift :
- Monday – Friday, 7 : 00 AM – 4 : 00 PM
- Saturdays as needed
Job Responsibilities :
Work 100% outdoors in all weather conditions – this job is not for those who cannot handle the elements.Inspect incoming scrap loads for non-compliant or hazardous materials.Safely navigate the yard, inspecting metal scraps, car parts, and other materials. This job requires caution, as the environment can be dangerous.Communicate with truck drivers, equipment operators, and co-workers via radio.Ensure proper vehicle and pedestrian flow for safe and efficient truck unloading.Report violations and ensure compliance with company safety regulations.Perform general yard maintenance, including sweeping, shoveling, and keeping work areas clear.Assist with additional tasks, such as rail operations and inspections.Qualifications :
Must have prior , Construction, Flagger / Traffic Control Experience, or a similar physically demanding role.Resume is required – no applications will be considered without one.Strong communication skills and ability to follow directions.Self-motivated, reliable, and safety-conscious.Willingness to learn and attention to detail.Forklift is a plus but not required.Physical Requirements :
Stand and walk 8-10 hours per day in a rough, outdoor environment.Work in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold).Bend, twist, and lift up to 50lbs frequently.Identify and remove unsafe materials while maintaining personal safety.Wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, high-visibility vest – provided by the company). You must provide safety-toe boots.Important Notes :
