Job Description – Analytical Chemist (Melter Role)
Reports to: Corporate Quality Manager
Qualifications:
- A degree is required
- This can be an introductory position, however one or more years of relevant experience in chemical analysis in a primary metals production facility is highly desirable.
- A proven track record of managing the laboratory process to include selecting, maintaining, standardizing and operating analytical equipment. Any experience with LECO and OES is a significant plus.
Salary: Based on experience, knowledge and education
Annual Bonus: 0% - 15% of base
Vacation: 1-2 weeks depending on experience level

Work Hours (approximately): 50 hours per week (4am – 2pm) 1 Saturday per month
Primary Duties:
- Chemical Laboratory – The heart of every alloy producer is its Chemical Analysis Laboratory. An analytical chemist is responsible for learning how to and executing the main functions of maintenance, calibration and standardization of analytical equipment, gathering and preparing adequate samples, testing those samples, reporting accurate and repeatable results and logging any anomalies or significant events during each phase of this process. On top of analytical duties, the Melter Role is also responsible for ensuring the alloy is produced within customer specifications and coordinating key production steps while the alloy is molten metal (trim additions to bring in spec, oxidation or reduction steps, etc.)
General Duties:
- Product Integrity – The Chemist is part of the quality team that is responsible for each and every item that is shipped from Remelt Sources, Inc. to Customers (both internal and external) and Outside Processors. This team recognizes that our reputation is on the line with each shipment.
- Process Control – The Chemist is part of a team that is responsible for maintaining a high level of process control, as defined by 6-Sigma capability for all key processes. Each key process must have a Control Plan and Monitoring in place. All special and common cause variations to the process must be investigated. All process changes MUST be implemented in a controlled way. Process audits should be conducted routinely.
- Quality Systems – The Chemist is also part of the team that creates and maintains a Quality System that meets AS9100, NADCAP and Customer specific certifications. This quality system is structured in such as way as to add value to the corporation by requiring continuous improvement and excellence in all that we do.
