A Project Architect will have the responsibility to manage support staff for multiple ground-up and renovation projects typically having a mix of design, project management, and leadership responsibilities. Key duties and responsibilities are :
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Project Design and Documentation
- Lead the design process from concept through completion, ensuring that all design elements align with the client's vision, project requirements, and budget.
- Oversee the creation of construction documents, drawings, and specifications, ensuring they meet architectural standards and code requirements.
- Coordinate with consultants (structural, MEP, civil, etc.) to integrate engineering components and ensure the feasibility of designs.
- Project Coordination and Management
- Manage project timelines and budgets, ensuring that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and other internal / external stakeholders, maintaining clear communication and managing expectations.
- Facilitate regular project meetings to discuss progress, resolve issues, and ensure that the team stays aligned on project goals and timelines.
- Staff and Team Leadership
- Assign tasks and delegate responsibilities to support staff, such as intern architects, drafters, and interns, ensuring that each team member understands their role and deliverables.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to support staff, helping them develop skills in design, documentation, and project management.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support career development for team members.
- Construction Administration
- Assist the internal project management team during the construction phase of projects, conducting site visits and inspections to ensure that work complies with design intent, codes, and quality standards.
- Review and respond to RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, and shop drawings to resolve any issues that arise during construction.
- Coordinate with the Project Management team to manage changes to the project scope, schedule, and budget as necessary.
- Quality Control and Compliance
- Ensure that all work adheres to relevant codes, regulations, and quality standards for both ground-up and renovation projects.
- Conduct reviews of design documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality.
- Implement quality control measures throughout the project lifecycle, addressing issues promptly to maintain high standards.
- Client and Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, keeping them informed of project progress and any changes.
- Address client feedback and incorporate their input while balancing project feasibility, budget, and timeline.
- Prepare presentations, reports, and updates for clients and stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment.
- Budget and Resource Management
- Assist internal partners to develop and monitor project budgets, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to meet project needs.
- Assist internal partners to track and approve project expenses, managing costs to avoid overruns.
- Collaborate with firm leadership to allocate staffing resources across multiple projects, balancing workloads and maximizing team efficiency.
- These responsibilities require strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to multitask and manage various project phases simultaneously.
- Demonstrate the ability to utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and BlueBeam Revu throughout the project process.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Commitment to excellence, integrity, and continuous learning in the field of architecture.
- In-depth knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards relevant to renovation, adaptive reuse, and ground-up construction.
- Professional degree in Architecture required
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in multifamily or hospitality preferred
- Active board licensure preferred.
