Senior Research Associate Contractor, Hit Validation, Program Enablement and Mechanism of Action Deconvolution

Position Summary:

We seek a highly motivated, cell and molecular biologist to join our team located in Watertown, MA as a contractor for 12 months. As a team member of the Biomolecular Sciences and Lead Discovery group, this individual will report to a Director and be responsible for the development, execution, and analysis of screening hits in various validation and hit expansion assays monitoring gene regulation to enable new drug discovery programs at Remix.  This individual will also provide program support for on-going projects by providing mechanistic insights into compound MOA.

We are seeking an enthusiastic scientist who can work independently, and as part of a team, in a dynamic innovative biotech environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experimental skills and will be expected to contribute to data generation, analysis, interpretation, visualization as well as communicating with a cross-functional team of scientists.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and conduct cell-based experiments for an innovative drug discovery platform to monitor RNA processing events
• Develop and validate in vitro assays for small molecule hit discovery, as well as elucidating MOA using cell and chemical biology approaches
• Participate in project team meetings and platform development
• Maintain detailed records of experimental protocols and data in electronic laboratory notebooks
• Prioritize activities, manage internal resources while balancing multiple priorities under time and resource constraints
• Build and maintain productive relationships with colleagues across the broader Remix team

Qualifications:

• B.S. or M.S. in cellular and molecular biology, or a related discipline with 4 years of early-stage small molecule drug discovery experience
• Experience with cell culture, including growing and maintaining adherent and suspension mammalian cell lines, measurements of cell viability, and gene expression readouts (qPCR and immunoblots)
• Experience with multiplex assays, 384-well qPCR, NGS workflows, and luciferase/GFP reporter systems is preferred
• Experience chemical biology approaches (IP-MS, ChIP-seq, etc) are desirable
• Experience with pharmacological treatments, transfections/stable expression of shRNA, siRNA and CRISPR are desirable
• In-depth knowledge of RNA biology related mechanisms (e.g., splicing, stability, turnover) is desired
• Excellent organizational and communication skills with ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary team
• Critical thinking, attention to detail, and careful record-keeping

Benefits:

Pay ranges between $44-54/hr based on experience.
