Job Summary:
The Lead Mechanical Assembly Tech position is responsible for supporting operations management and project management by providing professional service and support for Remtec Automation customers. Responsibilities include assembly and troubleshooting of prototype automation equipment before shipment, field installations, startup, repairs, and maintenance of automated systems. This position is an integral part of the project team which includes understanding and managing hours to project schedule for positive results, supporting engineering, and customer questions.
Essential Functions:
- Work from technical drawings, pneumatic schematics, BOMs, sketches, and verbal instructions to layout and assemble custom automated machinery.
- Layout equipment locations on the plant floor from drawing dimensions.
- Rig large equipment into place, level, and anchor (conveyors, robots, MCP, etc.)
- Modify components to fit at assembly.
- Mounting devices (drilling & tapping or welding).
- Identify and route pneumatic tubing from valves to devices.
- Maintain a project build book and red line all changes to be documented by engineering.
- Support projects during build, debug, run-off, tear-down, shipment, & installation.
- Troubleshoot mechanical & pneumatic components, devices, & sub-systems.
- Assist other disciplines during all phases of the project (electricians, fabrication, engineering, etc.)
- Safely operate fork truck for material/equipment workflow.
- Lead equipment installations.
- Lead multiple technicians on large projects.
- Overtime may be necessary as workload dictates (weekdays or weekends)
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Ability to travel to support installation of equipment overnight for 2 days up to 3 weeks.
Applicant Qualities:
- Good organizational skills and the ability to function with minimal supervision.
- High mechanical aptitude.
- Experienced in rigging techniques for robots, conveyors, and other equipment.
- Proper use of power hand tools (drill, jig saw, hammer drill, etc.)
- Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements.
- Must have own tools.
- Basic machining skills.
- Self-starter & flexible to pitch in on other projects as workload dictates.
Education and Experience:
- Equipment service background
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in maintenance and or rigging with an equipment manufacturer, production manufacturing, or industrial setting
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of physical exertion, including but not limited to walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and working in awkward positions and tight areas.
- Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and at times higher weights using a team-lift.
Work Environment
- Working around moving parts/machinery that can be loud.
- Must wear PPE to include ear and eye protection and steel-toed shoes/boots.
- May need to wear protective gloves and clothing.
- Will perform duties indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- The facility is a warehouse environment, and the temperature can fluctuate.
Travel Requirements
- Travel to customer sites to install equipment (10-25% travel estimate).
- Overnight travel is required for equipment installations.
