Job Title : IBM Mainframe Support Engineer

Location : Garden City, NY

Work Type : 100% Remote

Summary :

The primary responsibility of the IBM (z / OS) Support Engineer is to provide Level I technical support for the IBM suite of products supporting our customers and partners.

General Responsibilities :

  • Primary contact for customers, LVL I support technicians and implementation techs in resolving pre and post sales product installation, implementation, and product usage.
  • Acting liaison between the customer and the LVL 2 partner organizations.
  • Maintain up-to-date call ticket information for customers in the call-ticket DB.
  • Perform pre-sales technical support as requested by the Sales organization.
  • Follow-up on customer requests and needs, coordinating with other operating departments.
  • Participate in programs directed at customer retention and maintenance contract renewals.
  • Perform special projects as assigned and report progress.
  • Participate in on-call support.

Technical Job Knowledge :

  • Demonstrated knowledge of IBM z / OS output management products.
  • Working knowledge of z / OS and sub-systems
  • Working experience with web server specific to z / OS connectivity
  • Knowledge of z / OS output management and report products
  • Knowledge of JES2 (JES3 also desirable)
  • Strong experience working within ISPF
  • Strong knowledge of z / OS Job Control Language (JCL)
  • Strong communication skills
  • REXX / CLIST programming experience highly desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of the operating environments, including subsystems, in which IBM output management products operate.
  • Ability to confidently conduct product training classes and participate in the development of classes as required.
  • Recommend product enhancements and provide input for prioritizing product corrections to LVL 2 Product Development.
  • Review all user manuals and suggest additions or corrections as applicable.
  • Assist with product testing, as required.
  • Strong communication skills

  • Maintain highly accurate call ticket information.
  • Effectively use available communication methods.
  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

  • Bachelor's degree related to Computer Information Systems and / or Management is desired.
  • At least five years of direct z / OS operational and / or applications development experience.
  • Three years customer support experience, preferably in a software vendor support role.
  • A fundamental understanding of mainframe batch concepts, experience with z / OS report distribution, and familiarity with JES is required.
  • Salary : $95,000 - $110,000
