As a member of our hospitality team, the primary role of a Director of Event Management is to function as the Strategic Business Leader of Event Management, which includes overseeing the departments of Event Planning, Banquets, Event Service, and Event Technology, if applicable. This role is responsible for developing and implementing departmental strategies and initiatives and ensuring a seamless turnover of hotel events from Sales to Operations and back to Sales. This role plays a key role in developing and implementing hotel-wide strategies that deliver products and services to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of the brand's target customers by understanding the market, analyzing customer preferences, and aligning the event management operations accordingly.

  • Develop a comprehensive Event Management strategy that aligns with the brand's overall business strategy and take charge of its successful execution.
  • Promote regular and effective communication throughout the event operations team, conducting BEO meetings, pre-event briefings, and staff meetings to keep everyone informed and motivated toward achieving departmental goals.
  • Identify the key drivers of success in event management and focus the team on crucial priorities to achieve desired results, integrating departmental goals into action plans.
  • Champion change and drive the successful implementation of brand and regional business initiatives, effectively communicating follow-up actions to the team.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of new products, pricing, and services offered by the competition, introducing innovative ideas to maintain the hotel's competitive edge.
  • Collaborate with direct reports to review scheduled events, proactively troubleshoot potential challenges or conflicts, and encourage calculated risk-taking to generate incremental revenue and ensure excellent guest service.
  • Maintain a comprehensive awareness of all groups and events that may impact hotel operations, effectively planning and coordinating resources accordingly.
  • Oversee all aspects of Event Operations, including Banquets, Event Services, and Event Technology, ensuring seamless coordination and successful execution.
  • Supervise the event planning team (BEO/Resume writers), providing guidance, support, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Develop strong working relationships with external vendors, establishing pricing and service agreements that enhance the event experience and create additional revenue opportunities for the hotel.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of meeting spaces and corresponding back-of-the-house areas, along with proper inventory levels of furniture and equipment according to corporate guidelines.
  • Create a guest-centric atmosphere in all event management areas, consistently exceeding guest expectations throughout their experience.
  • Work closely with the culinary team to ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation standards, ensuring guest safety and satisfaction.
  • Empower associates to provide excellent service by establishing clear guidelines and providing ongoing training to understand guest expectations.
  • Be highly visible and engage with customers regularly, obtaining feedback on food and beverage products, service levels, and overall satisfaction, promptly addressing and resolving any guest concerns or complaints.
  • Conduct meetings with meeting planners during pre- and post-convention meetings, understanding their needs and gathering feedback on product quality, service levels, and overall satisfaction.
  • Lead the meeting planner satisfaction process on the property, reviewing results and implementing corrective actions to improve guest satisfaction.
  • Establish and maintain a customer recognition program throughout all event management areas to enhance guest loyalty and satisfaction.
  • Administer the event management bonus program, recognizing and rewarding exceptional performance.
  • Utilize an open-door policy and associate feedback to identify and address concerns promptly, ensuring fair and equitable treatment of all associates.
  • Develop EM sales goals and strategies in alignment with brand business strategy, monitoring actual and projected sales to achieve revenue targets and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Communicate sales strategies and goals to the Revenue Management team, ensuring their implementation and developing incentives to encourage goal attainment.
  • Identify revenue and profit opportunities, proposing ideas for stimulating business growth and creating value through innovation and necessary changes.
  • Stay informed about market trends and introduce new event management products to meet the brand's target customer expectations and maintain a competitive position in the market.
  • Forecast long and short-range event business for catering, event technology, and group room nights.
  • Develop and manage the budget for all event management departments, reviewing financial reports and statements to ensure optimal financial performance.
  • Negotiate contracts with retailers, service vendors, and contractors by company policies.
