Overview

The SBA Operations Manager will set the tone for quality and efficiency in the daily operations of the SBA Department. This position is responsible for oversight of the portfolio management, closing, funding and secondary market activities within the SBA Department. This is a management position which involves managing and developing staff, as well as processes and procedures.  The SBA Operations Manager will have decision making responsibility to ensure SBA and Renasant compliance in all areas of responsibility and must have authoritative knowledge.  The individual in this position will partner with the Director of SBA Lending and the Credit Department to establish and manage comprehensive processes and protocols, as well as be responsible for their implementation and management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading the SBA Department as a member of SBA Leadership Group
  • Oversight and supervision of portfolio management, closing, funding and quality control areas of SBA lending, as well as ensuring proper training and development of team
  • Take a “risk-aware” approach to duties and situations, with a goal of protecting the dual interests of the Bank and the SBA
  • Responsible for revision and maintenance of the Bank’s SBA Department Operating Manual, Construction Manual, as well as other procedures and templates, to ensure they are up-to-date and accurately reflects the SBA team processes
  • Stay current and maintain advanced working knowledge on all SBA rules/governances to ensure compliance is maintained in all SBA Closing, Funding and Management functions
  • Ensure all SBA loan structures and program eligibility requirements are met
  • Coordinate with SBA Loan Servicing to ensure exceptions, insurance and other document tracking, as well as loan file transmission and booking are closely and well-managed
  • Produce or oversee production of various management reports as required 
  • Approve wires for loan fundings up to approval limit
  • Participate in Clear to Close process, as needed
  • Oversee training and skills development of direct reports and their staff
  • Work with SBA Bankers, other SBA Management and the Credit Department to maintain effective and efficient systems and processes for onboarding new SBA loan requests and managing existing SBA loans
  • Prepare and communicate performance appraisals for direct report employees
  • Attend appropriate training and conferences in order to build and maintain expert credit and SBA knowledge
  • Exemplify the highest degree of proficiency in the Bank’s systems and processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree in business-related field preferred
  • 10 years banking experience with at least 5 years direct experience in SBA lending environment
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Advanced problem solving skills along with a team orientation
  • Ability to make sound decisions to positively impact the business
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and adapt effectively as business needs and pace changes
  • Advanced working knowledge in SBA SOPs and program eligibility 
  • General knowledge of commercial credit and loan structure
  • Supervision experience
  • Direct SBA or other commercial lending sales experience or SBA underwriting experience preferred
  • Specific SBA-related formal training preferred

Employees must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills when working closely with internal business partners and external clients. Employees may be exposed to confidential and propriety information within the working environment, therefore, must uphold confidentiality at all times. Due to the possibility of being exposed to high risk situations (i.e. robbery), detailed instructions and procedures are required to be followed at all times to safeguard the Bank’s employees, customers, and assets.
