Render is seeking a VMware Engineer with expertise in VMware vSphere, ESXi, and Hypervisor technologies to support Multiple Security Levels (MSL) and non-MLS systems within critical Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) programs. This role requires a blend of system administration, virtualization engineering, and cybersecurity expertise to ensure the security, performance, and compliance of IT systems in a DoD environment. This position will support work in St. Inigoes, Maryland and is a full-time in office position.

Key Responsibilities:
- System Administration & Management:
- Install, configure, and maintain VMware ESXi hosts, vSphere environments, and vCenter Server.
- Manage and optimize virtualized environments, including VM provisioning, performance tuning, and resource allocation.
- Implement backup, disaster recovery, and high availability (HA/DRS) solutions.
- Configure and manage Windows and Linux operating systems across mission-critical platforms.
- Configure and manage VDI infrastructure to enhance accessibility, security, and performance.
- Maintain domain integration, Organizational Units (OUs), and group policies to align with security policies.
- Establish and maintain syslog servers for centralized logging, monitoring, and event analysis
- Security & Risk Management:
- Conduct regular vulnerability scans using tools such as ACAS and Nessus to identify system weaknesses.
- Apply security hardening techniques in accordance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
- Implement and manage patch management processes, ensuring timely updates and security compliance.
- Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies, frameworks, and best practices.
- Maintain accurate security documentation to support audits, assessments, and regulatory compliance
- 5-12 years of hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and Hypervisor technologies.
- Strong understanding of VMware networking and storage architectures (vSwitches, VLANs, SAN/NAS).
- Experience with vCenter, vMotion, HA, and DRS.
- Proficiency in Windows/Linux system administration and Active Directory management.
- Experience with automation tools (e.g., PowerCLI, Ansible, vRealize Orchestrator).
- Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, SRM).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Active Secret security clearance
- Active DoD 8570 Certification (e.g., Security or equivalent)
- Bachelor’s degree in technical fields such as Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering (or equivalent work experience)
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher.
- Experience supporting DoD IT programs and understanding defense-specific security requirements.
- Additional cybersecurity certifications (CISSP, CompTIA Network ) are a plus.
- Experience with cloud-based VMware solutions (e.g., Azure VMware Solution, AWS VMware Cloud)
