What Youll Do
The Correctional Nurse Manager (NM), directs and maintains the daily clinical activities of the dialysis unit through effective leadership, professionalism, and management of all aspects of customer service, quality patient care, and financial management. Responsible for all dialysis patient care, the quality of clinical outcomes (as dictated by facility guidelines/restrictions) and standard of care provided within unit. Maintains strong relationships, regular communication, and visibility with all teammates, clients (site Managed Healthcare, DOC/BOP, Post Acute Facility, Hospital, etc.), and physicians. Practices cost containment strategies for all major cost inputs including staffing ratios affecting payroll, hiring (including agency as a last resort), and inventory/supplies, all while ensuring compliance with applicable company and state regulatory requirements. Tasked with the development, implementation, and continued training of unit clinical staff. Reports directly to the Regional Director as assigned.
This dialysis unit is located in:
- Avenel, NJ within Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center
You will also cover the following facilities:
- Woodbridge Township, NJ within Special Treatment Unit
- Trenton, NJ within New Jersey State Prison
- Clinton, NJ within Edna Mahan Correctional Facility
- Newark, NJ within Essex County Correctional Facility
As in any setting, this involves teamwork and coordinating care with the healthcare team. In addition to the healthcare team, you are also required to maintain strong relationships, regular communication, and visibility with clients (site Managed Healthcare, DOC/BOP, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Graduated from an Accredited Nursing School
- Current RN License for New Jersey & current CPR Certification
- One year of clinical dialysis experience required (within the last two years)
- Previous management experience preferred
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and satisfactorily communicate in English
- Strong technical/computer proficiency with laptops, tablets, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, etc.
- Ability to quickly learn a variety of technical systems and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Maintains oversight of the dialysis unit(s) for patient outcomes, operational efficiency, clinical excellence, customer service/relationship, supply inventory oversight, and team leadership.
- Complies with all state and federal guidelines and regulations (i.e. HIPAA, OSHA, ESRD, etc.).
- Provides leadership, guidance, and coaching for all direct reports and clinical staff to maintain an engaged and productive workforce -- we expect or Unit Leaders to LEAD not just MANAGE.
- Ensures all employees in the unit receive the required onboarding, training and education in a timely way according to company policy and in-line with industry standards.
- Implements and leads daily unit staff huddles where unit goals and objectives are discussed, and any pertinent corporate communication is delivered.
- Implements operational efficiency improvements which may include, but are not limited to, the standardization of systems (i.e. MPulse, EMR, Rendevor App, Machines, RO Equipment, etc.), quality control, safety, and employee and patient satisfaction.
- Implements company policies and procedures to maintain unit consistency across the company.
- Delegates tasks as necessary/appropriately to maximize time and efficiency.
Staffing and People Management
- Manages staff scheduling (including PTO and vacation planning), maintains staffing ratios established for unit, and proactively anticipates staffing needs.
- Demonstrates high level of staff retention and coordinates employee appreciation events, based on budget approval from Regional Director.
- Oversees all competencies and skills for all staff to ensure high level of skill proficiency and patient safety.
- Is present on the start date of all new hires to orient them to the unit and provide training on the facility, equipment, and processes.
- Ensures 100% compliance with staff licensure and certification reviews and maintenance.
- Ensures all staff are always current on all required certifications and licenses (including PRN staff). Understands that lack of license or certification affects the permissions granted to work with patients.
- Facilitates staff development, training, and monthly education.
- Reduces or eliminates overtime and agency utilization.
- Initiates Disciplinary Action when needed to correct/improve employee performance.
- Initial incident reporting
- Creation of first draft of action plan (with assistance of the Regional Director).
- Continuous PRN staff follow-up with the development and updating of PRN bench.
- Performs annual staff evaluations.
Recruiting
- Work with Regional Director to proactively identify staffing needs and work with Talent Team to communicate needs and timing.
- Interview top candidates provided by RD/Talent Partner and assist in the selection process. Interviews are to be given priority and scheduled promptly.
- Ensures availability for candidate interviews, which may include nights, weekends, and days outside of normal clinical hours.
- May participate in the negotiation of compensation based upon range provided by the Talent Team and RD; understands that compensation offered outside of the pre-determined range must be approved by HR and the Regional Director.
- Encourages employee referrals. May be required to personally contact all referrals provided by unit staff.
Clinical
- Patient documentation oversight: Models thoroughness and accuracy in accordance with industry/client requirements and regulations and holds team to high standards.
- Responsible for actively lobbying with client administration to eliminate any restrictions with client administration to eliminate any restrictions that may negatively impact patient outcomes, such as:
- Infection Rate
- Catheter Utilization
- AMA Rate
- Refusal Rate
- Ownership of staff clinical in-servicing and skills checks.
- Facilities staff clinical training and education according to Rendevor Dialysis P&P.
- Ownership of Lab collections and documentation.
- Daily staff assignments and task schedules throughout treatment day (may be assigned to Charge Nurse if available).
- Ownership of implementing, delivering, and completing patient education.
- Ownership of unit safety, cleanliness, and infection control.
- Coordinates patient scheduling, to maximize efficiencies for patient run times and necessary staff coverage.
- Completion of monthly facility audits (using an audit template provided by the RD):
- Development of action plans to address any deficiencies
- Ownership of Peritoneal Dialysis Program (if applicable):
- Reviews patient status on a weekly basis and understand PD supply management
- Acts as on-site liaison to the corporate biomedical team and timely notifies biomedical technician via MPulse of any service request.
- Acts as dialysis subject matter expert (practice constant learning and research).
Continuous Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement
- Ensure a formal CQUI/QAPI program is implemented in the unit with adequate resources for supporting the process.
- Collaborates with the Clinical Services Team to meet the CQ\I/QAPI initiatives and clinical goals, assisting in the identification of goals and related patient outcomes.
- Schedules and delivers monthly CQI/QAPI reports to client (Managed Healthcare, DOC/BOP, etc.) as applicable.
- Coordinates, participates in, and reports activities and outcomes such as lab results, communication with the Nephrologist regarding hospitalizations, outliers, etc., as required.
- Responsible for assuring that ALL CQI/QAPI information is entered into the Rendevor App by the due date.
- Trains personnel as necessary regarding CQI/QAPI in accordance with the Rendevor App.
Communication (internal and external)
- Ensures high level of client communications (facility level) minimum weekly or more frequently as needed:
- HSA/DON/Client Medical Director (or applicable on-site client manager)
- Custody As needed
- Nephrologist Communication weekly (or more frequently if necessary)
- Regional Director Communication weekly or more frequently as needed
- Biomedical Team As needed
- Consistent delivery of messaging from corporate team to unit staff
- On-site facility meeting attendance CQI, safety, etc.
- Maintains an open-door policy to communicate with teammates.
- Maintains professionalism and privacy of confident information.
Payroll
- Assists new hires in accessing the time system and demonstrating proper log in/out procedures.
- Timely and accurately approves/processes teammate timecards.
- Records arrival and departure time via ADPs time and attendance system.
- Although this position is considered exempt, recording time worked does not violate the exempt status. Recording time is required for benefit purposes and for safety and security matters when in a facility.
- Keeps accurate record of remote work as required by Regional Director, i.e. to attend meetings, interview candidates, etc.
- Understands that due to HIPAA rules and regulations, information containing PHI must always remain in the unit; therefore, all clinical work must be completed on site.
Accounting
- Timely and accurate review and submission of treatment rosters within two days of months end.
Inventory/Supplies
- Accurate and timely submission of unit supply orders to the RAA and RD per schedule.
- Maintains responsibility for ensuring that the unit has adequate supply inventories on-hand, that no supplies are expired, and that emergency supply levels and understood/on-hand.
- Oversight of off-schedule/atypical supply ordering while maintaining fiscal prudence.
Business Development
- Works diligently to be a great on-site partner to our client and be a company advocate to all outside parties.
- Actively listens for new opportunities within dialysis industry and sends any potential leads to supervisor.
General
- Promotes and implements the Companys mission, vision, and core values
- Displays excellent and professional written/verbal communication skills.
- Operates with a high level of responsiveness in providing information and deliverables to supervisors.
- Is available Monday through Friday (and Saturdays for six (6) day per week operations) for calls, meetings, interviews, and in-clinic presence as needed and/or required.

- Openly receives and promptly acts upon any feedback from supervisors, peers, clients.
- Volunteers to assist colleagues when necessary and assist with various projects as assigned.
- Reports any incidents to Regional Director.
- Reports work-related injuries to carrier via web portal. Follows up with HR and RD. Collects statement from claimant as well as witness statements.
- Must maintain RN License or CCHT Certification, CPR Certification and a clean background.
- Checks email daily and responds appropriately and timely; uses company-provided email for all work-related email communications.
- As an exempt position, workweeks may vary. May need to work more than 40 hours per week as needed.
- Adheres to all company and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
- This position will report directly to the Regional Director.
- This position will supervise clinical team members.
Background Check:
The Department of Corrections/Federal Bureau of Prisons and all applicable law require a comprehensive background check for all employees working in this position. This background check will be conducted after an offer, if any, is made.
Work Environment:
This role exists in a hospital, training center, patient residence, or in the medical unit of a post-acute or correctional facility. This role may include exposure to chemicals and blood-borne pathogens. This role routinely involves the use of both medical and standard office equipment.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. To perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to continually stand, walk, twist, crouch, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to work a full schedule which may average from five to fifteen hours per day, based on the unit requirements (i.e. patient census, staffing needs, etc.). This role also requires availability to work Monday through Friday or Monday through Saturday based on unit needs.
