Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Defect Reduction Metrology Engineer to join our semiconductor team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving defect inspection and metrology processes to ensure the highest levels of product quality and yield. This role is crucial for identifying, analyzing, and mitigating defects during the MOCVD growth process.
Key Responsibilities
The expected annual pay range for this position is $72,500 - 100,000. This position is also eligible for bonus opportunities and commission pay. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.

We are seeking a highly motivated Defect Reduction Metrology Engineer to join our semiconductor team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving defect inspection and metrology processes to ensure the highest levels of product quality and yield. This role is crucial for identifying, analyzing, and mitigating defects during the MOCVD growth process.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize metrology recipes and inspection strategies for defect detection and classification including the development of an AI/ML based detection and classification engine.
- Analyze data from defect inspection and metrology tools (e.g., optical inspection, SEM, AFM) to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Track correlations between substrate defects and epitaxial defects to screen incoming substrate quality.
- Collaborate with process and development engineers to correlate defect trends and excursions with process changes or tool events.
- Maintain and troubleshoot metrology equipment, ensuring high uptime and accurate measurements.
- Generate reports and present findings to cross-functional teams and management.
- Drive continuous improvement and defect reduction initiatives.
- A recent Master’s degree graduate in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field or Bachelor’s with relevant experience in metrology, defect inspection, or yield engineering in a semiconductor or advanced manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis software (e.g., JMP, Python, Excel, SQL).
- Familiarity with metrology tools such as KLA Candela or Nanotronics inspection system.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Experience with cleanroom protocols and wafer handling.
- Knowledge of DOE and statistical process control techniques.
- Familiarity with machine learning or data science for defect classification.
- Familiarity or coursework related to semiconductor materials, epitaxy, MOCVD, or characterization techniques
