Sales Associate

We are a Christian Faith Base non-profit thrift store supporting Acres of Hope. We are looking to fill a 40 hour a week or less position. Our store hours are Mon-Fri 10am to 5pm, and Saturday 9am to 4pm. We are closed on Sundays and all major holidays. Work shifts for opening would be as early at 8:00 and closing as late as 6.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

RETAIL ASSOCIATE

Reports to: Manager, Retail Operations

Classification: Full time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Varies with Assignment

SUMMARY

This position provides customer service and engages in daily retail activities including receiving, cleaning, pricing and displaying donated merchandise and working side-by-side with volunteer staff.

The ReNew Stores are led by a very small paid staff; we rely on volunteers for daily operations.
ReNew employees are gracious in their interactions with others, lead a God-centered life, and bring an attitude of service and enthusiasm to their work assignment. Due to the volunteer nature of our daily staff, employees must be flexible to cover shifts when a volunteer is unavailable. Must be able to manage multiple tasks calmly.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

1. Exhibit and maintain a high level of enthusiasm, integrity, competency, camaraderie and professionalism.

2. Perform daily tasks which may include, but not limited to any/all of the following:

• receiving, sorting and preparing merchandise for sales floor
• assisting customers to select purchases
• using cash register and utilizing established sales procedures
• utilizing established record-keeping procedures,
• observing safety procedures (proper lifting, use of step ladders, etc.)
• taking inventory
• other similar duties as necessary.
• 3. Maintain daily sales, cash drawer, petty cash and related reports and records as required.4. Answer customer complaints or inquiries as necessary.5. Adhere to all applicable Federal and State of California employment laws and PlacerFamily Housing employment policies.6. Ensure cleanliness, organization and security of the store including sales, office, bathroom and backroom areas.7. Perform other related duties as assigned.
• SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

1. Ability to consistently conduct oneself in a calm, kind and professional manner.
2. Ability to relate to colleagues and volunteer staff in a grace-based manner coupled with the ability to be firm on expectations.
3. High school diploma or GED required; college coursework preferred.
4. Minimum of two years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
5. Previous experience working with volunteers desirable.
6. Average ability to use a computer, including internet/email, database, social media,

Word, Excel.
7. Ability to communicate effectively.
8. Ability to follow through on assigned tasks to completion.
9. Ability to work in a retail environment 20 hours per week. This includes standing, walking, talking, answering telephones, serving customers, handling cash, bagging sold items.

10. Using proper techniques to avoid injury; regularly lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.

11. Ability to use standard telephones, cash registers, calculators, and other electronic devices as necessary.

12. Ability to accommodate a varied schedule according to operational needs.
