What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Engineer I position at Renewable Solar?
We are growing our team! Renewable Solar Inc is a rapidly growing Energy Service Provider (ESP), currently managing a portfolio of over 200 ongoing PV solar projects with a staff of roughly 100 personnel. We are an alternative energy company looking to carefully construct a team to support each other and grow the business, while carefully maintaining our priorities for our customers. We need an organized and motivated person who is task oriented and a team player.
Major Duties
Renewable Solar is seeking a motivated entry level engineer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing solar energy systems for our clients. The ideal candidate will understand engineering processes and have a willingness to learn about the solar industry.
Various duties may include but are not limited to:
- Develop preliminary designs based on site information and system specifications provided by prospective customers
- Produce plan sets for acquiring building permits that will be utilized by the Construction team
- Compile job orders/bill of materials (BOMs) consisting of electrical, mechanical, and structural parts
- Send requests for quotes (RFQ) to equipment manufacturers/distributors and review proposals/design documentation
- Collaborate with third party engineering firms and obtain professional engineering stamps on required documentation
- Work directly with local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) to resolve County corrections
- Review utility construction drawings for constructability
- Engage in Engineering to Construction hand-off meetings and clearly discuss the details of the project
- Communicate with different departments regarding any internal or external RFIs (Requests for information)
- Meet deadlines while managing multiple projects and provide status updates on each project following Company Policy and Standards
- Perform site walks at jobsites following Company Policies for gathering information
- Additional duties as assigned
Requirements of the Position
- 0 - 4 years of design experience
- Full-time position that will consist of primarily office work
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- Minimum education of bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
- Must be detail orientated
Supervisory Controls
Design Engineer l is a critical piece of the RSI team. They will report to the Engineering Manager, under the Project Management Officer (PMO). The Design Engineer l is expected to work 40-45 hours/week, with core hours being Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM, and available to support non-standard overtime hours as necessary.
Evaluation Factors
Design Engineer l will be evaluated based on project driven metrics, and their ability to successfully facilitate solar PV projects on time and within budget.
Pay Scale
Design Engineer l compensation will be at market rates, based on qualifications, currently estimated between $25-$27/hour ($52,000 - $ 56,000/year without overtime) incentives.
