Job Description:
The Tool Maker is responsible for designing, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and specialized equipment used in gear manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manufacture, modify, and repair tools, dies, and fixtures used in gear cutting, hobbing, shaping, and grinding.
- Setup and operate manual and CNC machines such as lathes, mills, grinders, Bridgeport, and gear cutting equipment.
- Perform precision grinding (OD/ID, surface and form).
- Work with tool steel and other materials.
- Work with and without blueprints.
- Maintain gear-related tooling, such as hobs, shaper cutters, and work-holding fixtures.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to develop and refine tooling solutions for gear manufacturing.
- Conduct in-process and final inspection of tools.
Process Improvement & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate documentation of tooling revision, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
- Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and production teams to troubleshoot manufacturing issues.
- Follow all safety protocols and safety standards.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient with micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and CMMs.
- Strong understanding of GD&T.
- Knowledge of heat treatment processes and how they affect tooling material.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to move freely within a manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Journeyman Tool and Die Card.
