English Teacher (ESL) for Private Language School

A private language school in Manhattan seeks ESL teachers with a Bachelor’s degree (in any subject; required), a teaching qualification such as a TESOL/ TEFL/ CELTA (required), and experience teaching adults (preferred). Experience teaching TOEFL preparation a bonus, as well as experience teaching Business English courses.

Applicants must be available to teach from Monday to Friday and be legally permitted to work in the U.S. (able to complete an I-9 and W-4 form). The normal classes are from 9:00-12:40PM Monday - Friday. The total hours for teaching a morning group class comes to around 20 hours per week. There is always the possibility of adding more hours in the afternoons teaching speaking workshops and/or private lessons whenever available.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Teach groups of up to 12 adult students using a provided syllabus and textbook online and in-person
• Assess students with weekly progress reports for regularly taught classes, track daily attendance, and do occasional excursions out in the city for practical lessons
• Teach afternoon workshops and/or private lessons, either in-person or online via Zoom or Teams whenever available and interested

Qualifications and Skills

• Familiarity and experience with communicative teaching methods
• Familiarity and experience with online teaching, preferably through Zoom
• Experience teaching adults (preferred)
• Bachelor's Degree (REQUIRED)
• A teaching qualification (TESOL, CELTA, TEFL, etc.), preferably one that includes a practical teaching component

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 4 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
