What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adaptive PE Teacher position at Reno County Educational Cooperative?
The Reno County Education Cooperative is seeking an Adaptive PE Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a new position serving students throughout the RCEC member districts. The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher utilizes current strategies and theories to plan, organize, and implement structured and adapted physical education lessons to students with disabilities for optimum participation, performance, and ability. This is a 9-month position that follows a combination of RCEC district calendars. The exact schedule will be determined with the Executive Director.
Qualifications :
1. Current Kansas professional license with appropriate K-12 adaptive physical education endorsement.
2. Free of any physical condition that would conflict with the health, safety, or welfare of the students.
3. Valid driver's license.
The successful candidate will be discrete, high-energy, agile-minded, strategic, proactive, a direct communicator, highly-organized and committed to the vision and values of RCEC. In addition, the following standards will generally define the successful incumbent :
- Instructional knowledge of crisis intervention strategies.
- Ability to apply a gradually progressive system of verbal and non-verbal strategies to effectively deescalate potentially dangerous situations.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of various methods of data collection and subsequent analysis and interpretation of data to drive appropriate behavioral interventions.
- Working knowledge of federal and state special education rules, regulations, and practices (IDEA);
- Broad knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and methodology of special education and child development;
- Working knowledge of special education policies, procedures and programs;
- Ability to be creative in developing alternatives to meet special education needs at each program;
- A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of individuals;
- Excellent communication skills and strong analytical and writing capabilities;
- Close attention to detail coupled with the ability to exercise good judgment;
- Strong organizational, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills;
- Proactive nature; able to anticipate conflicts before they arise;
- Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively;
- Ability to execute meetings, calls and emails with professionalism, courtesy and accuracy;
- Personal qualities of maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and diligence; and
- Ability to effectively allocate and prioritize time to several tasks to ensure completion of all.
