POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for assuring the proper maintenance, service, and adjustment of audio, video, and lighting equipment within each of the four properties operated by the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority. Sets up equipment for events held at RSCVA facilities to assure equipment operates reliably and continuously and meets the needs of the client.  Installs temporary power services, portable power distribution centers and maintenance of portable power cable and panels.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the provision of reliable audio, video, and lighting equipment to clients via request, referrals, or direct solicitation.
  • Review the work schedule to prioritize work assignments to fit the maintenance needs of audio, video, and lighting equipment. 
  • Operate equipment and systems and ensure their reliable and continuous operation by regularly inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing audio/visual/lighting equipment issues.
  • Use a variety of complex and difficult testing equipment to diagnose problems in audio, video, and lighting equipment.  Read and interpret blueprints and electronic schematics to effectively locate, diagnose, and correct operational problems.
  • Assist with power connection and lighting setups.
  • Install and maintain cable television and satellite equipment including pulling equipment, making cable feeds to departments needing them, etc.
  • Determine the amounts and types of equipment required to install or repair audio, video, and lighting systems. Prepares simple sketches for the installation, alternation, or repair of such equipment.
  • Calculate and determine cable needs and power requirements for each connection and verifies with Building Engineer.
  • Repair and construct new cables, connections, and portable panels as needed.
  • Assure prompt and timely set up of audio, video, and lighting equipment for events scheduled, and that the event is struck in a prompt and timely manner.  Meet with users of the facility prior to scheduled events to coordinate set up of the audio, video, and lighting systems to assure services provided to the user meet their needs. 
  • Assure the prompt and courteous correction of deficiencies.
  • Create and run computerized audio/visual shows for customers.
  • Create and maintain an inventory listing of all AV and network equipment; maintain all required records and files.
  • Assist with managing Wi-Fi and various networks.
  • Minimize down time of equipment. Effectively and accurately diagnose processing hardware operational problems and take corrective action to resolve these problems. 
  • May oversee outside Audio Visual Contractors to ensure that connections to RSCC equipment are correct, proper and safe.
  • Complete informational reports as required.  
  • Consistently demonstrate positive, interpersonal relations with all constituencies; cooperate harmoniously with others in the accomplishment of the RSCVA’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Is knowledgeable in the RSCVA Safety Program and takes necessary steps to maintain a safe work environment.  Adheres to safe work practices to prevent injuries.
  • Consistently demonstrates positive, interpersonal relations with all constituencies; cooperates harmoniously with others in the accomplishment of the RSCVA’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
  • Adheres to attendance and punctuality requirements per RSCVA policy.  Provides proper notification for absences and tardies. Takes corrective action to prevent recurring absences or tardies.
  • Uses time effectively and constructively. Does not abuse supplies, equipment, and service.
  • Observes all RSCVA and departmental policies governing conduct while at work (e.g., telephone and computer use, electronic messaging, smoking regulations, parking, breaks and other related policies).
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of specialized or computerized audio/visual equipment, or two years of journey-level experience in the Temporary Power and Theatrical Lighting trades.
  • Knowledge of video equipment, audio systems, and computers; network and operating systems; computer graphics software; video and audio integration; and various software programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
  • Knowledge of the principles and theories and the proper methods of operating, maintaining, and repairing audio/visual, lighting systems, and network equipment; and functions of hand/power tools utilized for repairing equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes as well as the principles and theory of the Electrical and Entertainment Lighting trades.
  • Ability to provide excellent and efficient customer service and public relations.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to determine what equipment and/or systems should be repaired versus replaced.
  • Ability to review and comprehend all necessary documentation and reports, including but not limited to blueprints, sketches, plans, specifications, and instruction manuals for the purpose of analyzing, repairing, and adjusting machinery, equipment, and controls.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, with staff, visitors, vendors, clients, and the public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend (at neck and waist), twist, kneel, crouch, and reach above & below shoulder level as needed.
  • Occasionally required to talk and hear.
  • Occasionally perform heavy and physically demanding work for lengthy and continuous periods of time.
  • Regularly required to safely work from ladders, catwalks, man lifts, and other high and small places.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.   
  • Simple grasping as well as repetitive use of hands and fine hand manipulation are needed to accomplish essential functions.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts and in indoor/outdoor conditions.
  • Frequently works in high, precarious places.
  • Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, fumes, or airborne particles and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
