What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facility Worker (RSCC Graveyard) position at Reno Sparks Convention And Visitors Authority?
This position is responsible for performing semi-skilled work in the set-up and striking of events scheduled for the Reno-Sparks Convention Center as well as the care, cleaning, and maintenance of this facility. A Facility Worker is expected to be able to work without close supervision and be willing to work irregular hours and days including overtime, weekends, holidays and graveyard shifts.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sets up and strikes equipment in a prompt and timely manner for events scheduled at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, including but not limited to tables, chairs, portable walls, bleachers, dance floors, staging and risers, barricades, furniture, and the like.
- Frequently operates a forklift, aerial tower, platform and scissor lifts, and other equipment for set up of these events.
- Assists in the attainment of the annual maintenance and performance objectives set for the maintenance of Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
- Maintains the grounds and parking lots by picking up trash, sweeping, blowing off loading docks & sidewalks, monitoring and repairing the irrigation system, prunes and fertilizes shrubs and trees, pulls and sprays weeds, pressure washes walks and entryways, and performs snow removal duties.
- Provides timely and courteous service to clients of the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in helping clients move in/out of the facility, loading and unloading trucks, performing light maintenance and carpentry in the construction of booths, displays, and exhibits, and provides transport carts.
- Picks up debris on the floor and sweeps all corridors, concourses, and bathrooms with an automatic scrubber, mop, or push broom. Removes any spillage, gum, and other foreign matter. Damp mops the flooring, bleachers, and staging.
- Empties all wastebaskets and other trash receptacles and replaces liners; high dusts and cleans the walls, air intakes and outlets, light fixtures, windows, sills, ledges, concrete flooring, and carpeted areas using manual and mechanical methods.
- Maintains professional and productive atmosphere.
- Is knowledgeable in the RSCVA Safety Program and takes necessary steps to maintain a safe work environment. Adheres to safe work practices to prevent injuries.
- Consistently demonstrates positive, interpersonal relations with all constituencies; cooperates harmoniously with others in the accomplishment of the RSCVAs strategic goals and objectives.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
- Adheres to attendance and punctuality requirements per RSCVA policy. Provides proper notification for absences and tardies. Takes corrective action to prevent recurring absences or tardies.
- Uses time effectively and constructively. Does not abuse supplies, equipment, and service.
- Observes all RSCVA and departmental policies governing conduct while at work (e.g., telephone and computer use, electronic messaging, smoking regulations, parking, breaks and other related policies).
- Reports to work as scheduled and/or requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience performing maintenance/custodial work such as cleaning and maintaining buildings.
- Must possess a valid Nevada Drivers License.
- Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, methods, equipment, and tools used in the custodial trades, including dust mops, spray buff machines, wet/dry vacuum, floor waxes and cleansers, furniture polishes, chemicals and disinfectants, metal cleansers, and the like.
- Ability to review and comprehend work assignments and operating manuals.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff, supervisors, visitors, vendors, and the public.
- Ability to perform heavy and physically demanding work for lengthy and continuous periods of time.
- Skilled in cleaning assigned building areas using a variety of custodial equipment and materials.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Ability to multi-task.
WORKING CONDITIONS /ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- May work near moving mechanical parts.
- May work in high places and is exposed to various temperatures inside and outside the building, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment may be loud while using equipment and during events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to reach with hands and arms above and below shoulder level.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, bend (at neck and waist), stoop, twist, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, push, and pull.
- Simple grasping as well as repetitive use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Frequently required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
