This position is responsible for effectively promoting Washoe County (Reno, Sparks, and Incline Village) and surrounding areas, as appropriate, as a tourism destination and for achieving the goals and objectives of the Reno Sparks Convention & Visitor's Authority (RSCVA).
In addition to the optimum candidate having tourism knowledge, the Tourism Sales Manager specializes in effectively promoting Washoe County to tourism travel trade and is responsible for sourcing business with potential and established client base contracting area hotels. Additionally, the Tourism Sales Manager will cultivate third party data partner sites for top selling travel agencies to Washoe County, develop and maintain up-to-date room and air booking results to be used in developing and implementing digital and traditional tourism sales and marketing programming. Including but not limited to Amadeus, Mail Pound, TA Connect, Travel Click, TravProMedia, Simpleview, etc.).
Primary work will occur in the RSCVA’s administrative offices, however, at times work may occur in any one of the RSCVA’s facilities, area hotels/activities and out of market while attending tradeshows and sales missions.
The Tourism Sales Manager is expected to be able to work without close supervision. This position may, on occasion, interact with RSCVA management/co-workers, Board of Directors, community business/hotel partners, travel trade media, and outside vendors.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create, implement and manage partnership marketing programs.
- Thorough understanding of partnership marketing process and experience in developing successful call-to-action/branding sales and marketing campaigns with effective ROI/ROAS.
- Demonstrates strong skills in developing and executing strategic business plans that effectively grow hotel bookings/room night production.
- Develops plans to shift market room nights from competitive destinations.
- Management of relationships for the destination by identifying and cultivating travel partners within the key distribution channels.
- Assist in strategic planning and implementation of industry tradeshows, sales missions, client development events, sales promotions, client identification/cultivation, destination training process and client communication activity.
- Maintain and manage digital training programs/database clean-up with existing third-party partners in the U.S., Canda and Mexico.
- Create tour operator and agency direct programming to continuously enhance CRM (Simpleview).
- Create real-time process to quickly identify and communicate with top producing agencies/tour operators for digital and traditional sales outreach for both the RSCVA and hotel partners.
- Develop digital database reports, programs, and initiatives.
- Develop Excel standards and reports with pivot table features to identify and easily cross reference Washoe County producers across various data-sources such as, including but not limited to Amadeus, Mail Pound, TA Connect, Travel Click, Trave Pro Media, Simpleview, etc.).
- Develop tour operator and agency client development and sales/educational platforms for our hotel partners to include the following, but not limited to, call center agents, wholesalers, receptive operators, airline sales staff, travel agents and industry trade shows.
- Identify corporate travel agencies by PCC (Pseudo-City Code) and rate structures via, including but not limited to Amadeus, Mail Pound, TA Connect, Travel Click, Trave Pro Media, Simpleview, etc.).Plan and implement familiarization tours and follow-up as needed.
- Project budget management and development.
- Assist in development and implementation of the Tourism Sales Plan.
- This position is also responsible for interfacing with the RSCVA Marketing, Sales and Finance departments, various stakeholders and property sales and marketing executives ensuring that the RSCVA’s activities are coordinated/implemented timely, efficiently, and satisfactorily.
- From time to time this position will also be called upon to assist other departments as necessary to complete a variety of tasks ranging from administrative duties, client promotional gift preparation to site inspections.
- Prepares monthly reports and assists the Vice President of Sales and the Executive Director of Tourism Sales as needed or assigned.
- Develops and maintains an accurate, up to date and comprehensive knowledgebase of the regions attractions and points of interests, and local hotel properties, is also able to effectively utilize knowledge as a sales tool.
- Maintains the department in a neat, clean, and orderly manner, especially in own work area.
- Adjusts calendar to accommodate travel, weekend, evening, and holiday assignments.
- Collaborate with all RSCVA departments on short- and long-term planning as appropriate.
- Meets established room night sales goals; leads, prospecting and solicitation goals.
- Assumes accountability for results of actions. Meets deadlines. Follows through on commitments to customer and internal planning process.
- Strengthens customer relationships through service ethic; anticipates and provides solutions to customers’ needs. Serves as an objective consultant for both external and internal customers.
- Conveys relevant information in a timely fashion, appropriately tailored to the intended audience; effectively influences and persuades others; listens effectively and follows-up to ensure understanding.
- Ensures that all information and promotional materials developed follow brand guidelines.
- Consistently demonstrate positive, interpersonal relations with all constituencies; cooperate harmoniously with others in the accomplishment of the RSCVA’s strategic goals and objectives.
- Actively participates in formal department/RSCVA planning activities.
- Participates in professional community organizations as appropriate.

Qualifications
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Hotel Administration, or related field desired.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tourism or hospitality desired.
- Destination Marketing/Management Organization, Convention and Visitors Authority/Bureau or Tourist Board work experience highly desired.
- Familiar with a variety of Tourism, Convention and Hospitality concepts, practices, and procedures desired.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships, foster trust and cooperation among team members as well as customers and suppliers. Must have an outgoing personality, be able to make instant connections.
- Ability to prepare presentations and deliver to clients, hotel partners and board of directors.
- Must maintain valid Nevada Driver’s License while employed, be able to secure a U.S. Passport and rent a vehicle as necessary.
- Must be computer-literate and proficient in various software programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, TEAMS, and Adobe.
- Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both in writing and verbally, with staff, supervisors, visitors, vendors, and the public.
- Ability to communicate proficiently in Spanish both verbally and in writing highly desired.
- Ability to review and understand all necessary documentation and reports.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; work independently in the absence of supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend (at neck and waist), twist, and reach above & below shoulder level as needed during the shift.
- Simple grasping as well as repetitive use of hands and fine hand manipulation are needed to accomplish essential functions.
- Frequently required to talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Lift up to 15 lbs. on occasional basis.
WORKING CONDITIONS / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- May work near moving mechanical parts.
- May be exposed to various temperatures inside the building and outside the building, airborne particles, and fumes.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet while in the office, or moderately noisy when in the field.
