Duties:
- Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient.
- Provides information to patients and employees by answering questions and requests.
- Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist's access; suctioning; passing instruments.
- Provides assistance to dentists by questioning patients about their medical history, taking prescribed vitals (including Height, Weight, Blood Pressure and O2 Saturation), and recording the information for reference.
- Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth.
- Provides diagnostic information by exposing intra- and extra-oral digital radiographs, taking impressions and pouring and trimming study casts.
- Maintains patient appearance and ability to masticate by fabricating temporary restorations; cleaning and polishing removable appliances.
- Helps dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR/BLS certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.
- Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.
- Provides other assisting duties including, but not limited to: applying topical anesthetic, placing dental sealants, removing sutures, application of fluoride treatment, and prophylaxis.
- Documents dental care services by charting in patient records.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains scheduling operations by assisting Dental Scheduler with Scheduling appointments, maintaining records, sending bills, answering phones, ordering supplies and other office tasks
- Maintains dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
- Conserves dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Dentist.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate from a fully accredited Dental Assisting program at time of hire or have at least 5 years of prior experience working as a dental assistant (with a minimum of 6000 hours chairside).
- Must be certified in Dental Radiology through graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting program or through “on-the-job” training within the last year, at the time of hire
- Must have a current CPR/BLS certificate prior to date of hire
- Must be computer literate and be willing to be trained on new software as needed
- Must be a self-motivated individual and have good interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work in a “Team” environment, in limited space with shared work areas.
- Must be able to work in a diverse minority environment
- Must provide evidence of a recent Infectious Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) test showing ONE of the following: 1) a negative Mantoux skin test 2) a negative chest x-ray or 3) a statement from a physician confirming freedom from TB.

PLEASE NOTE: Hiring preference will be given to qualified tribal members of Reno-Sparks Indian Colony followed by members of other federally recognized tribes. Must pass and comply with the HR Policy 164.905- PL101.630. The Reno Sparks Indian Colony requires a designated candidate to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and confirmation of professional references and certifications.
