What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airport Operations Specialist position at Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority?
Talk about front and center…our Airport Security Specialists are at the heart of the action in keeping The Reno-Tahoe International Airport safe and secure. This is a very important role, and we are looking for the right person to fulfill it and round out our team with just the right mix of attention to detail, passion for customer service, and the ability to quickly assess a situation and do what needs to be done. And it’s BUSY! You’ll never have to worry about getting your 10,000 steps in this job; our Security Specialists typically log twice that many (i.e. 10 miles) in the course of a shift, so if you want a desk gig, then this is definitely not the job for you!
“TEAMWORK FOR RESULTS” is one of our organizational values, and it is never more important in this position. We are counting on you to bring this value to the table if you are hired. Why? In this role you work with just about everyone: the traveling public, employees, tenants, vendors, ground transportation (taxis, limos, etc.). You will patrol the front curb to ensure that things are moving smoothly. You’ll also respond (rapidly!) to door alarms and other access control situations, and conduct inspections of individuals, goods, and vehicles in accordance with federal regulations. You must be willing and able to assess problem situations, interpret whatever scenario you encounter and apply your training quickly with tact and sound judgment. Along the way you will have the back-up and support of a terrific team of hard-working individuals. But wait! What? This position is eligible for a $1000 sign on bonus.
There is one (1) position open; however, the list established may also be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. Both internal and external applicants will be considered. Applicants must be available to work all shifts (day, swing, and graveyard) 7 days a week including holidays, and you must indicate this on your application under availability. Shift assignments are determined by seniority using a shift bid system.
These are the types of things you’ll be doing on a daily basis:

- Inspect and verify identification of vehicles/drivers requesting entrance at airfield access gate(s) in compliance with federal regulations to maintain the safety and security of landside/airside locales.

- Maintain activity logs, provide incident documentation, and complete other required paperwork/reports in order to keep management informed of operations and activities.
- Assist in the direction of traffic to avoid congestion and keep vehicles flowing smoothly.
- Serve as a member on the airport emergency response team to include providing support in non-standard or emergency situations by implementing evacuation and re-population protocols when warranted and providing traffic control and direction when necessary.
