This position is responsible for student, resident and staff development, which includes the application of adult education principles. The incumbent performs an outcome evaluation relative to clinical practice, provides consultation to other health care providers, and is an excellent clinician. In addition, this person is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining clinical support for the Staff Pharmacists. This person has advanced knowledge and experience of diseases and associated complications in a pharmacy specialty area. The incumbent must be a highly qualified independent practitioner able to provide and be responsible for drug therapy outcomes for individualized patients as an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. | |
Nature and Scope: | |
The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist supports pharmacists, residents, students, and clinical specialists involved in all aspects of clinical pharmaceutical care to proved optimal patient outcomes. The position requires advanced leadership and clinical pharmacy skills. These leadership skills include role modeling, coaching, teaching and monitoring to develop the pharmacy clinical staff and residents. These clinical pharmacy skills include current knowledge of the latest information concerning all aspects of the pharmacy profession in their pharmacy specialty area, and provide pharmacy staff with optimal tools for clinical pharmacy practice in their pharmacy specialty area. The incumbent also has consultation skills to collaborate with pharmacy management, nursing management, physician, and other departments and professionals within the hospital as well as in the community. The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist will complete evaluations on residents and students and will contribute to annual evaluations of pharmacists, make recommendations regarding matters of employment and disciplinary actions where appropriate. In addition, this position performs the following functions:
Developing new methods or techniques and new information is required. Extensive use of reference materials is also necessary. The incumbent has the authority to plan and develop all clinical programs, as well as educational and training programs, and to determine the content of responses to requests for drug information. Decisions that must be referred to the Director include 1) implementation of all new services 2) changes to existing programs, and 3) formulary recommendations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred | |
Education: | Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Doctor of Pharmacy Degree preferred. |
Experience: | Completion of a fellowship in a specialty area of pharmacy practice or extensive clinical experience in a specialty area (preferred – not required). A minimum of 5 years experience as a Pharm.D. or 3 years experience as a Pharm.D. plus 1 year of residency training, or 10 years as a clinical Pharmacist. A nationally recognized form of advanced credentialing with regular renewal requirements including, but not limited to BCOP, BCPS, BCDP, BCPP, BCASP, CACP, CDE, DABAT, CGP and CPP. |
License(s): | Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Pharmacist license. |
Certification(s): | Healthcare BLS within the first 90 days of employment is required for all locations. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within the first 90 days of employment is required for location 200211. |
Computer / Typing: | Staff: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Typing: 25 wpm. |
