Job Summary :
Entry level Public Safety opportunities available for service minded individuals interested in facilitating a safe and secure environment for the students, faculty, and staff who live, learn and work at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
The Public Safety Officer I is responsible for the detection and prevention of crime, for the protection of persons, property and the general maintenance of peace, order and security; duties include patrol, crowd control, traffic control and dispatching.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Candidates will have, at least a some college credits after having completed high school or GED. College requirement not necessary for those with qualifying military service
- Must possess and maintain a valid US driver's license
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a NYS Security Guard License
- CPR and AED certification must be completed within three months of hire
- All Public Safety Officer I incumbents must successfully complete Rensselaer's Field Officer Training Program within four (4) months of hire
Must be available for flexible shift scheduling
Note : Five (5) years of safety, security, law enforcement experience or other related experience may be substituted for college credits
Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

3rd shift 11 : 00 PM - 7 : 00 AM
2nd Shift 3 : 00 PM - 11 : 00 PM
1st Shift 7 : 00 AM - 3 : 00 PM
Travel
Local travel between campus locations only
Driving
Driving a Rensselaer vehicle for non-passenger use
Salary Range / Rate
Expected hiring range :
Qualifications for Public Safety Officer II include : Officer II may require a higher educational standard, specialized certifications, or additional years of experience. At least five (5) years of combined safety, security, law enforcement, or related experience, which can substitute for college credits. Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a safety or security setting preferred. Advanced certifications in security or law enforcement practices.
