Position
Join our team at Renton Technical College (RTC)! We are seeking applications for Adjunct Pharmacy Technician Instructors at RTC. The instructor will be responsible for teaching a state approved curriculum for the ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician program. Some of the core courses included in the curriculum include pharmacology, top 200 drugs, prescriptions and record keeping, hospital procedures, pharmacy law and references, computer skills, and pharmacy calculations. This individual will also prepare the students for the national board certification for pharmacy technicians. This person will work to establish clinical training sites and supervise students during a mandatory internship in retail and hospital pharmacies. Other professional responsibilities includes: maintaining office hours at times convenient to the students; serving as an ad hoc member of the program's advisory committee; participating in professional improvement activities; and other related duties as may be assigned by the dean.
The Dean of Allied Health reviews applications as needed to fill openings during the academic year. We may need instructors as soon as April 2025. This is a part-time position, and the hours and dates may vary and will be established based on assignments. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
- Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments and outside agencies.
- Effectively teach the adopted curriculum for the Pharmacy Technician program.
- Prepare students for national board certification.
- Provide for the orderly conduct of program learning activities, individual student learning needs, and the appropriate evaluation of student progress towards attaining the learning objectives.
- Contribute to the development and updating of the curriculum as required by the college and industry needs.
- Assist to maintain program national accreditation.
- Maintain appropriate individual student records and submit them in a timely manner as required.
- Participate in recruiting and job placement activities for students.
- Actively participate in and develop and maintain effective working relationships with the program advisory committee, enhances advisory committee representation by developing close ties with the business community.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
- Ability to work well within a team.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
- Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
- One year of formal education as a pharmacy technician, Pharmacists preferred.
- At least two years of experience as a pharmacy technician within the last five years and National Board Certification (CPhT).
- Current Washington State Pharmacy Technician license.
- Clinical hospital experience or advanced I.V. admixture skills are preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct students in the theory and practice of pharmacy technician. Teaching experience is preferred.
- Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment a current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
WORKING CONDITIONS:Working hours are generally aligned instructional needs with occasional evening and weekend work required. Work is mostly sedentary in nature. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus.

Candidates will be asked to provide documentation of unofficial transcripts of graduate courseworkThis is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $1,058 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days. All guided practice instructional credits for adjunct will be paid with an additional pay factor of 1.33. Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $1,592 per credit, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.
Degree Stipend: Master’s or Doctorate degree stipends are paid on a prorated per credit rate.
