What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interim Instructional Designer position at Renton Technical College?
RTC is hiring an Interim Instructional Designer! RTC has a goal of making all hands-on programs hybrid or flex as quickly as possible. To support that goal, the Instructional Designer will need to efficiently develop content to implement the curricular vision of faculty subject matter experts (SMEs). The Instructional Designer works directly with faculty, developing course design and content for prof-tech and academic programs. As part of the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning, the Instructional Designer participates in planning, implementation and assessment activities for faculty teaching in all modalities.
This position is temporary for one year with the possibility of a two-year extension. The Interim Instructional Designer is a full-time position and exempt from civil service and representation. The instructional Designer is part of the eLearning team, and reports to the Associate Dean of Instruction. The pay range for this exempt position is $82,000-$86,000 Annually. The priority consideration date for this position is November 15th, 2024.

- Utilize technology or multimedia projects

- Experience with visual design and layout as related to presentations and instructional delivery.
- Apply ADA standards for web content accessibility.
- Translate course outcomes and assessment into activities and teaching/learning strategies that can be accomplished within a technologically-mediated instructional environment.
- Experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience performing the duties of this job OR Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Instructional Technology, Distance Education, or a related field.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities and complete assignments in a timely manner under dynamic working conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to be creative, collaborative, flexible, and thrive in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
- Experience working with multimedia development, and mobile learning.
- Openness to experimentation and maintaining expertise in relevant emerging technologies.
- Successful experience in designing and teaching online courses using innovative teaching and assessment strategies to engage a diverse student body.
- Experience in the use of a learning management system.
- Ability to create, facilitate, and assess online and in-person trainings.
- Evidence of strong emotional intelligence, relationship building, and coaching skills.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office, specifically experience in creating & editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Previous success learning new computer software programs/platforms required.
- Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessibly content, whether print or electronic.
- Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, planning, and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team supporting the college's mission, vision, and shared governance processes.
- Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am – 4:30 pm. Work is mostly sedentary in nature and is performed in an office environment which is adequately heated and ventilated. Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screens in performing work assignments required.
