Are you a human services professional who is interested in supporting students impacted by food and housing insecurity? Are you passionate about empowering and providing assistance to others while they navigate state resources? If so, join our team at Renton Technical College! We are seeking 2 Student Benefits Navigators. The Benefits Navigator will help students seek, apply for, and receive assistance from benefits programs, emergency resources, and community resources. This position will also work to enhance collaborations with community partners to increase resources and develop and implement a Hunger-Free and Basic Needs Campus Strategic Plan. This is a grant funded position; continuation is contingent upon future funding.


The Student Benefits Navigator is represented by The Renton Professional Technical Association (Prof-Tech) and reports direclty to the Executive Director of Workforce, Education & Grants. This is a full-time, classified, and overtime eligible position. The pay range for this role is $63,829 - $82,116 annually and salary placement is based on applicable work experience. New hires may not be placed above Step 10 ($78,310.) Prof-Tech employees receive a yearly degree stipend if they have an Associate’s degree $150, Bachelor’s $250, or a Master’s $350. Other benefits are listed on our benefits page and in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  The priority consideration date for this position is February 28th, 2025.

Renton Technical College, located southeast of Seattle, has provided quality education in a variety of occupations for over 75 years. Our professional-technical certificate and degree programs offer entry and mid-level training in the areas of allied health, trades and industry, culinary, business, technology, and automotive.   • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically minoritized populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. 
  • Work closely with existing college and community partners to prevent duplication of services and to streamline support for students through strategic braiding of available resources. 
  • Actively participate as a member of the statewide Student Benefit Navigators cohort, including attending trainings and meetings. May travel occasionally for in-state trainings and meetings. 
  • Develop and implement a Hunger-Free and Basic Needs Campus Strategic Plan.
  • Contribute to the development of the statewide Student Benefits Navigator model, including program processes and data tracking systems. 
  • Track and monitor all students receiving support through this grant and assist with quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Support student access to Basic Food assistance and the Basic Food, Employment & Training (BFET) program. 
  • Provide guidance and support of students through application and eligibility process for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)  
  • Support student access to the RTC food pantry.
  • Contribute to the Virtual Learning Community for the Statewide Collegiate Recovery Initiative 
  • Participate in ongoing program evaluation and revision efforts to ensure appropriate and effective support for students experiencing homelessness and students in recovery.
  • Work with other College programs and the SBCTC to secure resources to increase and enhance funding.
  • Seek new community partnerships to increase resources for students.
  • Manage budget and resources for the on-site Benefits Hub, inlcuding supervision of AmeriCorps members.
  • Provide comprehensive, culturally responsive, strengths-based financial coaching and financial education to students in one-on-one and small group settings (training will be provided).
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. 
  • Perform other related projects and assignments as assigned.
  • Experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessibly content, whether print or electronic.
  • 2 years of case management experience (or similar) required.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field.
  • Previous experience working with people experiencing food insecurity or homelessness preferred.
  • Superior technical skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and database programs.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings.
  • Excellent customer service, communication (verbal/written/presentation), and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to accommodate multiple stakeholders with various interests and needs.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilities. 
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting, reviewing, and applying program specific policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Strong planning and project management ability.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record for local and regional travel (or have ability to secure transportation).
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion, and courtesy.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, Chinese).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working hours are generally aligned to business hours, Monday – Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
