What You’ll Do
Overview
The Math Interventionist provides math instruction in a one-to-one or small group setting to improve specific math skills, or other foundational skills, of scholars with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support regular classroom instruction. Works with school Principal and Math teachers to design and create intervention plans of learning aligned with regular classroom math objectives and most appropriate for each scholar.
Essential Responsibilities

Assessment of Scholar Needs: Conduct detailed assessments to identify the specific learning needs and challenges faced by each scholar. This includes using formal assessments like standardized tests, as well as informal assessments like observations and math tasks.

Individualized Learning Plans: Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) or personalized learning strategies that cater to the unique needs of each scholar.

Intervention Plans: Works with school Principal and Math teachers to design and create intervention plans of learning aligned with regular classroom math objectives and most appropriate for each scholar.

Instructional Strategies: Utilize specialized instructional strategies that are effective for scholars with disabilities. This could involve using multi-sensory approaches, concrete manipulatives, visual aids, and technology that supports learning.

Collaboration with Teachers and Parents: Work closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and parents to ensure a cohesive approach to the scholar's education. Collaboration may include training other teachers on effective strategies for teaching math to scholars with disabilities.

Monitoring Progress: Regularly monitor and document the progress of scholars against their set goals. Adjust teaching methods and learning objectives based on the scholar's progress and feedback from other educators and parents.

Resource Development: Develop and adapt resources that are accessible and appropriate for scholars with various disabilities. This might include creating or sourcing large-print materials, audio recordings, or digital resources that are compatible with screen readers.

Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest research and developments in math education and special education.
Emotional and Behavioral Support: Provide support for the emotional and behavioral challenges that may arise due to frustrations with learning difficulties. Strategies might include positive reinforcement, behavior modification plans, and working closely with school psychologists or counselors.

Other qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree
-
3 years of continuous teaching experience in mathematics

Must meet certification requirements by the time employment begins (Mississippi teaching license or equivalent)
