Summary
The Payroll Manager is responsible for US and Canada, payroll for approximately 1,500 employees in an EPC company across 6 US entities across 45 states and 4 Canadian entities in 5 provinces. This position is an active participant in the day-to-day payroll and tax processing and supervises a small team.
This role will be onsite 5 days per week for the first 2-3 months. After this period, a hybrid arrangement of 1-2 days from home may be considered.
Requirements
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.

Requirements
- Ensures timeliness and accuracy for weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles.
- Ensures compliance with payroll laws and tax regulations for the countries and states/provinces in which the company operates.
- Leads continuous improvement initiatives of business and system processes to reduce risk and increase productivity.
- Engages in timely and accurate filing, payment, and reconciliation of all federal, state, local, and unemployment payroll taxes and collaborates with accounting on any necessary account reconciliations.
- Creates and maintains training documentation for payroll processes and works with the team to have designated backups identified and trained.
- Works on cross-functional teams to develop, test, and implement software systems and business processes that affect payroll functions.
- Ensures benefit programs affecting payroll are applied timely and correctly, in compliance with company policies, statutory and regulatory requirements. (ex. health and retirement benefit deductions, expense reimbursements, bonus payments, garnishments, etc.)
- Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
- Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.
- Participates in special projects as assigned by management.
- Supports internal and external audit activities.
- Collaborates regularly with HR, Accounting, Tax, and various reporting requirements.
- Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
- Leads by example to show that safety is the most important function, ensuring that all employees follow safe practices while working.

- Manages one or more direct reports.
- Participates in hiring and selection process to fill positions on the team.
- Communicates regularly with direct reports on goals, accomplishments, and information on policies.

- Employee Development:
- Provides tasks and assignments that challenge and stretch employees’ responsibilities.

- Conducts timely, effective performance reviews in accordance with RES guidelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management, relevant field, or 8 years of relevant experience required.
- Certified Payroll Professional or Fundamental Payroll Certification preferred.
- 5 or more years of progressive payroll-specific experience required.
- Canada payroll and tax experience preferred.
- 2 or more years' experience with payroll systems (Paylocity and IFS are a plus) preferred.
- Payroll processing and timekeeping knowledge.
- Experience with multi-state payroll tax reporting.
- General understanding of basic accounting concepts and ability to reconcile payroll accounts.
- Strong Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Functional competencies include accountability, attention to detail, system thinking, prioritization, and communication.
