reSAWNTIMBER co. is currently seeking an experienced manager that can work with other functional groups to develop department-wide policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Lumber Department. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing technical projects, driving operational initiatives, and positively interacting with employees and customers. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to support plant goals in safety, quality, productivity, and cost control, driving continuous improvement across all levels of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and oversee the performance of the lumber department, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
- Set and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure qualitative and quantitative team outcomes.
- Conduct regular meetings with department personnel to promote personal and professional growth.
- Partner with HR to support employee well-being, training, and development initiatives.
Operational Management
Oversee daily and weekly workflow to ensure operational efficiency and timely completion of projects.Develop, implement, and sustain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work systems, and instructions.Manage departmental budgets and contribute to long-term structure planning.Review and approve staff hours, PTO requests, and administer performance reviews and disciplinary actions as needed.Coordinate closely with other departments to achieve organizational goals.Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
Enforce and innovate quality control and assurance protocols.Identify operational issues and execute effective solutions.Monitor and encourage workplace safety while maintaining a clean and organized environment.Stay updated on workflow management tools and ensure inventory and production status sheets are current.Inventory & Logistics Management
Oversee the logistics, organization, and inventory of wood and finish materials across all warehouses.Conduct routine inventory checks and ensure accurate records of changes.Communicate vendor-related issues to the Purchasing Department.Special Projects
Lead the development, expansion, and management of the moulding operation, ensuring efficiency and quality.Build and deliver presentations to educate, propose, or inform stakeholders.Participate in budget planning, including conducting job interviews for open positions.REQUIRED SKILLS
3-5 years of professional experience managing a team in a lumber manufacturing operation2-3 years of professional experience in quality control, assurance, or inspectionKnowledgable of various wood species, their characteristics, and gradingExperience with Wood Moulder machines and processesProficiency with Google Sheets or Microsoft ExcelStrong organizational and leadership skills. Ability to influence, motivate and engage team members. Excellent judgement and creative problem-solving skills. Self-reliant and results-orientedMust have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organizationMust have excellent analytical skillsAbility to lead and / or support multiple projects simultaneouslyPREFERRED SKILLS
Basic understanding of water-based, water-borne, and oil-based finishesExperience developing and managing budgetsKnowledge of LEAN Manufacturing principlesYou should be proficient in :
