IRC Background: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Denver aims to foster and enhance partnerships between employers and the IRC in Denver, thereby promoting integration, self-sufficiency, skills development, and career advancement opportunities for refugees and other Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) eligible populations in Colorado. Employer Engagement programming will take place in the Denver Metro area, supporting clients. 

The IRC in Denver will connect employers with newly arrived refugees seeking employment and will develop effective employer partnerships that are equally invested in seeing their refugee employees succeed in the workplace.


Job Summary:  

The Employment Specialist will support the Economic Empowerment Program (EEP) by providing training and support to clients who are already employed and ORR eligible. This role involves developing and facilitating tailored curriculum focused on ESL and job-specific skills training, as well as maintaining strong relationships with employer partners. The Specialist will be responsible for conducting intake processes, creating individualized training plans, and tracking client progress. The role also includes coordinating cultural orientation sessions for employers, creating resource materials, and ensuring effective communication with community partners. Under the direct supervision of the Career Development and Financial Capability Supervisor, the Employment Specialist will contribute to program goals by facilitating job skills development and supporting both employers and clients through regular follow-ups and ongoing support.

  • Position Directly Supervises: This is not a supervisory role. May work with interns and volunteers engaged in job development and related services and coordinate their schedules


Major Responsibilities

Employment Services

  • Lead employer partner meetings by facilitating discussions and collaborating with employer partners to tailor training programs.
  • Develop resource materials for employers and employees in their respective roles and expectations.
  • Conduct cultural orientation for employers to enhance understanding of diverse workplace dynamics.
  • Ensure all clients meet ORR eligibility requirements before participating in the EEP.
  • Conduct intake sessions by collecting the necessary documentation (Enrollment Forms) for each client entering the program.
  • Develop tailored training plans for each client based on their role, needs, and goals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in both the ETO system and any additional client tracking tools such as the Client Data Tracking Spreadsheet
  • Coordinate the logistics of scheduling clients for classes, including arrangements for interpretation, transportation, class location, and class times.
  • Develop a tailored curriculum for each employer partner, following a format of 5 hours of ESL training and 5 hours of job-specific skills training, for a total of 10 hours per participant.
  • Conduct pre- and post- program assessments for students/clients to evaluate improvements in both language (ESL) and job-specific knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain employer relationships through bi-weekly meetings or emails to ensure ongoing support and satisfaction with the program.

Additional Duties

  • Attend/participate in introductory calls with employer partners to set expectations and explain program details.
  • Conduct site visits with employer partners to ensure the program is effectively implemented and to build stronger relationships with employers.
  • Assist in the creation/review of biannual EEP reports, documenting progress and outcomes.
  • Collect feedback from both students and employers to assess program effectiveness and gather testimonials for reporting.
  • Communicate with community partners/organizations to enhance collaboration and support for program participants.


Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required;
  • 4 years’ experience in the non-profit, recruiting, or social services sector preferred
  • Prior experience working with limited-English-proficient and low-income populations preferred
  • 2-4 years’ experience with employment counseling, case management, or coaching required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to make presentations 

Working Environment: 

  • Hybrid remote/in-person office environment. Occasional travel to off-site locations is required.


Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
