SCOPE OF DEVELOPMENT: This internship is located within the Resource Development Department, whose purpose is to establish strong, mutually beneficial connections between the community and the IRC in Wichita, KS. The Development & Volunteer Intern will work closely with the Development Coordinator towards these goals in order to enhance the IRC’s ability to meet client needs. This position requires a minimum commitment of 15 hours a week for at least three months. The hours for this position are flexible; however, will primarily be between 9AM and 5PM on weekdays, with occasional weekend activities. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with outreach and recruitment efforts with community groups, students, and other organizations.
• Recruit and match volunteers and interns with available opportunities.
• Assist in updating volunteer and intern resource information.
• Assist with activities related to volunteer training and retention.
• Assist with reporting and tracking on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
• Develop resources and communicate with community partners and the IRC community about events and new opportunities within our network through an email newsletter and social media.
• Assist with other Resource Development needs on an as needed basis, including donation management, external communications, and fundraising.
• Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and special staff development programs.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
• Learn best practices for operating within the Development Department and support the volunteer program, including recruitment, placement, management, and data tracking.
• Learn how to provide culturally sensitive support and interview skills.
• Learn how community members can support refugees, asylum seekers, survivors of torture, and other populations that the IRC serves.
