IRC Organizational Background: 

The IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors and local volunteers to help refugees, asylees and those with Special Immigrant Visas translate their past experiences into assets that are valuable to their new communities. In Denver and other offices across the country, the IRC helps refugees and asylees to rebuild their lives through services and programs that assist with initial resettlement through longer-term integration. Presently, these services are case management, employment services, psychosocial support, family stabilization, health coordination, health insurance literacy, family reunification and programs for children and youth. The Denver office also has a legal services program to provide pro bono legal representation to survivors of torture, as well as direct legal services for family-based immigration. 

 

Position Overview: The vision of the IRC in Denver Youth Program Assistant is to equip refugee youth with the skills and experience needed to pursue their individual career pathways. The Youth Program Assistant works in tandem with the Youth Outdoor Learning Opportunities summer program. Assistants will support the IRC’s youth and family outdoor access programming by supporting education program initiatives and weekly field trips to local parks. The Youth Program Assistant will gain leadership skills as they support guiding youth and family groups along with the program activities, workshops and field trips. 

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Complete program training requirements including leadership development, and administrative training.
  • Support the planning and implementation of IRC’s youth summer programming.
  • Engage and build supportive relationships with refugee youth and families during summer program.
  • Using interpretation services, connect with youth and families for program registration and program evaluation.
  • Collect and track participant surveys, registration forms, and ensure program documentation is entered into program databases in a timely manner.
  • Help complete necessary reporting on program activities and accomplishments through photos, videos, and forms of media.
  • Prepare and clean all program supplies necessary for workshops and field trips.
  • Participate in all necessary IRC youth program meetings and development activities 
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of IRC.

     

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Youth between ages of 18 – 25 years old, in or out of school.
  • Relevant experience with English language learners, and refugee and immigrants new to country.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Fluency in language(s) of current refugee populations a plus but not required (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Ukrainian, Spanish, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Rohingya, Sudanese Arabic etc.).
  • Must be able to get to and from IRC office or community-based locations.
  • Must be able to commit to summer activities schedule from start of program the week of 27 May 2025 to the end of program on 8 August 2025.
  • Commit to the work schedule of 18.75 hours a week for 8 weeks**
  • **(No work activities on June 19 and July 4th). 

 

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
