The CCTS Team Science Component provides education, training, and coaching to improve teamwork among research teams at the CCTS partner institutions, across Texas and beyond through active collaboration with regional and national CTSA hubs. The CCTS Team Science Project Manager works with multi-institutional trainees, investigators, administrators, biomedical informaticians, and software developers engaged in translational research/science. This role requires strong communication skills and data analysis techniques, and the ability to adapt to evolving inter-disciplinary scenarios and collaborations. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated team player with excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills. The candidate should preferably have experience in initiating collaborative initiatives, team management, assessment and training.

Position Summary:

Develops, plans, maintains research and policy analysis. Oversees the general running of the laboratory. 

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Manages the research agenda for the area. 
  2. Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors the progress of projects, and provides supervision and guidance to the research personnel, research nurses and administrative staff. 
  3. Facilitates collaboration between clinicians and research scientist, internal and external to the University.
  4. Assists with the annual budget, negotiates service contracts, reports on progress and authorizes expenditures. 
  5. Informs upper management of key activities.
  6. Assists in grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies. May work closely with the Office of Sponsored Projects on the submission of grants. 
  7. May conduct or supervise training related to research for internal, hospital, and community groups.
  8. Manages on-going strategic plans for the area.
  9. Communicates with community and professionals to share objectives and outcomes. Prepares/makes oral presentations at professional meetings. May also participate in committees as deemed appropriate for the department.
  10. Manages Humans Resources activities or gives direct input for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  11. Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for the department.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Additional duties may include:

·       Uses TeamMAPPS (Team Methods to Advance Processes and Performance in Science), an evidence-based competency model for team science training and evaluation developed by the CCTS Team Science Component. The TeamMAPPS will be used as the primary training curriculum to increase collaboration and effectiveness of scientific teams.

·       Provides grant writing assistance to teams preparing grants that need scientific content in their application related to how the team will create and maintain teamwork.

·       Assists teams with planning of collaborative efforts i.e., help teams assign roles and responsibilities to facilitate effective teamwork.

·       Provides coaching and/or custom training to individuals (team members and team leaders) and teams that are experiencing challenges.

·       Takes leadership in building a website that includes Team Science self-administered tools and software to diagnose team strengths and weaknesses; and identify strategies to overcome obstacles; and tools for debriefings, team huddles, team meetings, etc.

·       Evaluates utilization of these tools/services and measures the impact of teamwork on enhanced knowledge dissemination as the result of effective collaboration and communication among CCTS professionals, programs and partner institutions.

·       Stays abreast of the latest developments in the field and contributes to TeamMAPPS improvement, evaluation, dissemination and future development (e.g., implementing a train-the-trainer model).

·       Reaches out and create relationships with individuals and institutions across the CCTS sites and provides professional and technical support to adapt, adopt, implement and/or improve Team Science activities.

·       The candidate will be accountable for the team science component activities and will meet weekly with the Director and Co-Director of the Team Science component and will provide weekly input or as needed. 

Certification/Skills:

Depending on research may require advanced level grant writing skills.
Depending on research may require Registered Nurse within the State of Texas.
Depending on research may require Clinical Research Coordinator certification.
May require program specific certifications.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in science or a health administration related field.

Minimum Experience:

Five years of applicable experience.
May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Preferred Skills:

Scientific background with 3 to 5 years of experience leading complex multi-institutional interdisciplinary projects, with a focus on data analysis and collaborative initiatives. An ideal candidate will have relevant experience with content knowledge.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
