JOB DESCRIPTION
The Professional School Counselor is an administrative-level position responsible for working with students and families, ensuring that RTHS students are supported, welcomed, encouraged, and can develop successfully.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Establishing program oversight and accountability
- Adheres to laws/ethics of the school counseling profession.
- Participates in activities to improve knowledge and skills.
- Conducts a yearly review of program implementation effec
Collaborating with the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Team to facilitate systems of support
- Consults/collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.
Facilitating individual student planning
- Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.
- Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning.
Providing preventative and responsive services
- Provides leadership and collaborates with other educators in the school-wide integration of social/emotional curriculum.
- Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
Developing/managing a comprehensive school counseling program:
- Uses the majority of time providing direct services.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Master’s degree in a relevant educational field; school counseling license preferred.
Experience
At least five years of experience in a middle or high school. Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness and should be effective public communicators.
