Job description
Come join our team! We are looking for a Part-time QMAP for our Assisted Living Community, The Residence at Skyway Park located at 886 Arcturus Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.
We are hiring for a day shift 6a - 2p for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday as well as an evening shift 2p-10p for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. You MUST be able to work those hours!
The Resident Caregiver/QMAP (Qualified Medication Assistance Person) provides direct care and medication assistance to residents. A Resident Caregiver/QMAP designated as Shift Lead also provides limited supervision and guidance to the Resident Caregivers and any other Resident Caregiver/QMAP assigned to that shift in the absence of the Resident Care Coordinator. The Resident Caregiver/QMAP communicates professionally with residents, families, and peers, and as part of a team, helps to create a positive, caring environment. The Resident Caregiver/QMAP is accountable to the Resident Care Coordinator; the Executive Director is the Resident Caregiver/QMAP’s second-line supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school education or its equivalent
: Must have previous experience in a care-related setting. CPR training helpful but not necessary. Basic First Aid certification required. Current Colorado State QMAP (Qualified Medication Administration Person) certification is required. Experience with older adults preferred. As of January 2025, all QMAPs who completed their QMAP training before July 1, 2017, are required to retake and successfully complete the full QMAP training before being allowed to continue their QMAP duties and activities as per Senate Bill 24-167.
Performance Capabilities: Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Must be organized in the management of resident care and administration of medications, and the supervision of staff (if designated). Must have the strength and endurance required for standing, walking, bending, lifting and pushing.
WORK PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Medications
- Ensure that medications are maintained and administered in accordance with internal policies and procedures and Colorado State regulations.
- Document medications given to residents accurately, completely, and in a timely fashion.
· Document care provided and changes in resident status in resident charts and other systems in accordance with facility and departmental procedures.
- Under the direction of the Resident Care Coordinator, reorder medications as needed; receive, verify and properly store medication stocks received from pharmacies or family members; and ensure Medication Administration Records (MARs) are updated accurately and in a timely fashion when new orders are received.
Resident Care
· Orient new residents and their families to facility procedures.
· Carry out requirements of the care plan for each resident as prepared by the Resident Care Coordinator, including but not limited to providing assistance as needed with all activities of daily living (ADLs) as well as resident laundry, linen changes, and oxygen management.
· Monitor resident status and communicate functional changes of residents to the Resident Care Coordinator for modification of the resident care plan.
· Provide or coordinate with Resident Caregivers in providing basic first aid services to residents.
· Serve meals/snacks to residents in coordination with the Dietary Department staff, providing dining-related assistance to residents as indicated in each resident’s care plan.
· Provide housekeeping/spot cleaning in the absence of the housekeeper, to ensure a safe and healthy resident environment.
· Support and assist the Activities Program as needed and/or assigned.
Staff Development and Supervision
· Assist with orientation and training of all new personnel assigned to the Resident Care Department, under direction/guidance of the Resident Care Coordinator and Shift Lead.
· As Shift Lead, make daily rounds to monitor care resident needs.
· As Shift Lead, monitor care provided by other Resident Caregivers during the shift, provide on-time training or guidance as needed, and report any problems or performance issues to the Resident Care Coordinator.
Communication
· Communicate with residents’ family members as needed.
· Read Change of Shift/24-Hour Log to be aware of resident needs at the beginning of each shift.
· Document care provided and changes in resident status in resident charts and other systems in accordance with facility and departmental procedures, accurately, completely and in a timely manner.
· Document significant information regarding resident care and medications accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
· Communicate changes in resident medications and status with oncoming medication staff.
· Prepare paperwork required for resident transfers, discharges and physician visits.
· Coordinate care with physicians, pharmacists and other health care agencies under direction of the Resident Care Coordinator.
Guest Relations
· Demonstrate a courteous, polite, and friendly attitude with residents, families and visitors.
· Respond to the needs of residents, families and visitors by providing immediate assistance.
· Function as a representative of the Residence at Skyway Park team, assisting co-workers as needed.
Safety
· Use proper body mechanics when bending or lifting.
· Observe established guidelines regarding infection control and safe resident care/health practice.
· Know the facility’s disaster and fire safety policies and procedures, including the location and correct use of the fire alarm system.
· Follow the designated plan of action in the event of a fire or other emergency.
· Know where to locate First Aid supplies.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
In order to meet the work performance expectations in a satisfactory manner, the employee must:
· Properly describe to the Resident Care Coordinator how to clean and dress a superficial skin tear.
· Demonstrate competency in essentials of resident care, including transfers, bathing, dressing, toileting, and resident personal hygiene/grooming.
· Demonstrate competency in essentials of medication management, including proper administration of oral, topical, eye and ear medications.
· Perform all duties according to established policies and procedures, and in a professional manner with respect for resident rights.
· Demonstrate good judgment and decision making skills.
· Show up for work on time with minimal absences.
· Attend scheduled meetings and in-service training.
· Adhere to the dress code requirements related to personal grooming and attire.
· Perform other duties as assigned
