OVERVIEW
As the Kitchen Steward, you will be responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen area. You will ensure that all kitchen surfaces, floors, and equipment are regularly cleaned and maintained according to our high hygiene standards. This role helps to create a safe environment for food preparation and ensures compliance with safety and health regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, including countertops, stovetops, and appliances, throughout the day
- Sweep and mop floors on a regular basis, ensuring that all areas are free from food debris, grease, and other residues
- Maintain cleanliness in the dishwashing area by ensuring proper organization and sanitation
- Empty, sanitize, and replace trash and recycling bins in the kitchen and surrounding areas.
- Restock cleaning supplies as needed and ensure they are stored properly
- Report any maintenance or repair needs (e.g., malfunctioning equipment, plumbing issues) to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner
- Adhere to health and safety standards, including the correct use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Ensure the kitchen environment is always kept hygienic and safe for food preparation and staff.
- Any other tasks as requested by management
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their proper usage and safety protocols.
- Ability to follow cleaning checklists and schedules consistently
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time and carry out cleaning tasks throughout a shift
- High attention to detail with the ability to identify cleaning needs in all areas of the kitchen
- Strong time management skills to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and within the allocated time
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with kitchen staff and management
EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience in kitchen cleaning or custodial work preferred but not mandatory
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment
ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Most work will be performed indoors in moderate temperatures, controlled by hotel environmental systems, with occasional work outdoors on the property.
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, up to a complete 8-hour shift or more if overtime is required. Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
OTHER
The employee may be required to work varying schedules as dictated by the business needs of the hotel. This includes attendance at all scheduled brand and job specific training sessions and meetings. May require nights, weekends, and holidays.
Consistent attendance in accordance with the standards set forth by Resolute Road Hospitality must be maintained and is an essential element of the success in this role. If the employee is unable to meet these requirements, he/she will be subject to disciplinary action based on management operating policies, up to and including termination of employment.
