Job Description : Ambulatory Surgery Center Nurse
Reports to : Office and Nurse Managers
Purpose of Position :
Responsibility for the nursing care of patients requires specialized skills and judgment. Provides appropriate patient education as directed by the Medical Director.
- Essential Competencies / Performance Expectations include the following : the required behaviours associated with the standards listed below and all nursing competencies related to those standards;
1. Demonstrates competence related to the application of company mission
2. Demonstrates competence in leadership, communication, professionalism, organizational and analytical skills, and knowledge in the performance of duties and responsibilities to the patient population served.
3. Demonstrates clinical competence as outlined in nursing competencies.
Qualifications
Experience / Education / Certification :
Interpersonal : Development and maintenance of effective relationships with all departments, office staff, patients, and the public. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations.
Critical Thinking : Strong planning and organizing skills. Analytical skills are necessary to assess complex patient conditions effectively. Skill in exercising judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Knowledge : In addition to all nursing competencies, organization policies, procedures, and goals and objectives of the IPR program.
Physical Requirements : Work requires little to moderate physical effort. Work requiring moderate physical exertion is intermittent. Environmental Conditions : Work is performed under normal working conditions as in a normal practice environment. Must be able to work under pressure.

Demonstrated Skills
1. Cares for patients and family
2. Demonstrates appropriate infection control Measures
3. Provides age-specific care (18-65)
4. Provides age-specific care (65 )
5. Performs physical assessment
6. Utilizes basic principles of nursing Documentation
7. Administers medications
8. Establishes and maintains IV (RN only)
9. Performs IV direct injection (IV push) (RN only)
10. Cares for a patient requiring oxygen
11. Admits patient to the ASC or clinic
12. Transfers patient
13. Transcribes orders to chart
14. Uses aseptic technique
15. Provides patient and family education
16. Addresses patient needs for pain management; documents pain level at preop and discharge
17. Demonstrates effective use of equipment
18. Completes yearly safety and OSHA training.
19. Maintains Licensure with yearly verification
20. Maintains current CPR q 2 years
