What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Instructor (Spring & Summer 2025) position at Resource Area for Teaching?
Join us in shaping young minds and creating unforgettable learning experiences for campers as an Assistant Instructor. The Assistant Instructor supports the Leader Teacher in delivering engaging, dynamic learning experiences, and takes on substitute responsibilities when needed. You will be essential in starting and ending each day with exciting team-building and journaling activities that complement our STEAM lessons, fostering an imaginative and collaborative environment. You will help advance RAFT’s mission of fostering a love for learning through creative, hands-on STEAM project kits.
This is a temporary position with the opportunity to work 17.5 to 40 hours per week, depending on the camp site. This role comes with a competitive hourly pay range of $30.00 to $33.00, plus a $200 stipend for completing training and the hiring process on time.

Sample of responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Activity Facilitation:
- Lead daily opening and closing activities that combine journaling and team-building exercises.
- Assist in managing a classroom of up to 20 campers, creating a collaborative and fun learning environment.
- Support Lead Teachers by guiding campers' focus on learning activities and ensuring smooth transitions between tasks.
- Under the direction of the camp director, substitute for Lead Teacher if needed.
Supply Management:
- Maintain an organized activity space by restocking consumable supplies and transporting materials to and from a central storage area to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Training & Debrief:
- Participate in at least 9 hours of onboarding training, professional development, and staff meetings before camp starts.
- Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Student Supervision and Safety:
- Supervise outdoor activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
Monitor campers during transitions and breaks to maintain a secure environment.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a credential program or holding a Bachelor’s degree and applying for credential programs.
- One or more years of experience in teaching or managing student programs.
- TB Risk Assessment & Fingerprint clearance.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Genuine interest and experience in working with young children in a childcare/education environment.
- Commitment to one week, Monday through Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM.
