What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Technician position at Resource Environmental Management, Inc.?
Resource Environmental Management is seeking Environmental Technicians for our geological services, environmental consulting and waste management departments. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual beginning or continuing their career in the environmental industry with a sense of belonging to a strong team that is well established. The Environmental Technician role is typically 80% field / 20% office work, so this role is ideal or people who enjoy working outdoors and working independently.
Job Functions:
1. Waste Management and Disposal
- Operate company box truck and lift gate
- Characterize and collect industrial waste containers – drums, totes, boxes
- Transport and transfer or disposal of industrial waste.
- Assist in preparation, packaging and disposal of lab packs
2. Sample Collection
- Understand bottle ware and preservatives
- Collect water, air, gas, soil, and waste samples
- Label and pack samples appropriately
- Complete sample chain-of-custody
3. Data Gathering and Interpretation
- Calibrate meters
- Employ meters and GPS tool(s) to gather field data
- Download and store data
- Prepare tables, graphs and figures for inclusion in reports.
4. Environmental Monitoring and Site Investigation
- Participate in environmental monitoring and site investigations under the guidance of an Environmental Specialist.
5. Emergency Response
- Participate as a member of Resource’s Emergency Response team
- Participate in the on-call rotation
6. Other Field and Office Tasks as assigned
- Containment and site maintenance
- Snow removal
- Some staff are assigned specific office tasks e.g. truck fleet management or meter maintenance.
Requirements
Candidates require a High School Diploma or GED and a valid driver's license. In addition, candidates should:
- Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Must be able to traverse rugged terrain while wearing PPE.
- Maintain a clean/safe driving record
- Be comfortable driving company vehicles and tow behind trailers
- Candidates working in the waste management department will be required to obtain a medical card in order to operate the box trucks, and must be able to move heavy drums with mechanical assistance
Successful candidates will start in one department and rotate through other departments every 6 months. Resource operates a structured performance assessment program with annual compensation reviews and staff are given the opportunity to progress their careers in their chosen area of interest.
Salary : $16 - $25
