What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Scientist (Entry-level) position at Resource Environmental Solutions LLC?
Overview
RES is looking for a qualified candidate to fill a Scientist I position. This position requires zero years of experience and is based out of our Fort Lauderdale, FL office.
The mission: Our Florida operation is growing exponentially and RES needs scientists with experience conducting field studies and preparing reports. You will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge of south Florida ecosystems while learning from an experienced team of senior biologists, scientists, and ecologists!
What your day-to-day might look like?
Around 60% of the time you will be in the field, providing field support to senior scientists – you will be carrying equipment, taking notes and photos, and performing manual field activities (for example, taking soil samples for wetland delineations, excavating inactive burrows, etc.). At times overnight stays will be required (per diem included), and you can expect traveling around 15% of your time.
Note that we perform these tasks in Florida’s hot, humid environment for extend periods of time, in natural and disturbed land settings with potential exposure to biting and stinging insects, venomous snakes and spiders, wild animals and other hazards, so being an avid outdoorsperson is necessary to thrive in this position.
The remaining time will be spent processing field data, preparing reports and assisting other RES staff with fieldwork, if needed.
You will be working on benthic resource assessments using SCUBA or snorkeling; wetland delineations and assessments; species surveys; upland vegetative surveys and tree assessments/tree surveys, so this is a true opportunity to start your career in the ecological field.
Qualifications

- You hold a B.S. in an environmental science-related field (including, but not necessarily limited to, ecology, forestry, botany, geology, soils, marine biology, environmental science, etc.).
- You are an avid outdoorsperson.
- You are passionate for ecological work and sustainability.
