The mission: Our Florida operation is growing exponentially and is in sharp need of an entry-level Scientist to do the groundwork. You will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge of natural resource evaluations and environmental permitting, whil e learning from the experienced team of senior biologists, scientists, and ecologists!
The final product of your work is a result of tight collaboration between several team members and different teams, who all might speak different technical languages and be located in different geographies. We therefore are looking for a skillful Communicator, who will be able to navigate through this complexity. While you will be properly trained, the team is expecting you to be a Self-Starter who enjoys solving problems and independently working on solutions for clients.
What your day-to-day might look like?:
Note that we perform these tasks in Florida’s hot, humid environment for extend periods of time, in natural and disturbed land settings with potential exposure to biting and stinging insects, venomous snakes and spiders, wild animals and other hazards. Work can also been in urbanized settings, high traffic areas, landfills, scrap metal yards, and parks. Being a person who is well versed in multiple environments is essential for this job
30% of the time you will be in the office, assisting in the preparation of reports and permitting documents for submittal to clients and state, federal and local regulatory agencies. Technical Writing skills are paramount, so be ready to showcase them during the interview.

RES is looking for a Scientist with up to two (2) years of relevant work experience based out of our Fort Lauderdale, FL office.

What your day-to-day might look like?:
Assisting in several projects for both private clients and municipal clients, at least 70% of the time you will be working in the field. Tasks you will be accomplishing include:
- Groundwater and soil sampling using Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Chapter 62-160 F.A.C sampling protocols.
- Construction compliance: Health and Safety Plan compliance, soil management, dust monitoring and air quality sampling.
- Landfill Monitoring
- Engineering Control inspections

We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:
- B.S. in an environmental science-related field (such as but not limited to ecology, soils, hydrology, environmental engineering, environmental science, etc.)
- Experience conducting and soil sampling using FDEP Standard Operation Procedures
- Experience Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments using ASTM standards
- Knowledge of FDEP or Miami Dade County Environmental (DERM) assessment regulations
- Contaminated Site Assessment Report Writing
- Experience in using Survey123, Field Maps, GPS and ArcGIS Pro for collecting data, and knowledge of field sampling procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.
What will make you stand out?
- HAZWOPER 40 certification or OSHA 10 or 30 for construction or Part 46 New Miner Training Certificate-MSHA
- FDEP SOP Sampling Certification
- Certification including professional geologist, professional engineer or the ability or obtain them in one to two years.
- FAA 107 drone pilot license
- Spotter Training for Solid Waste Facilities
- FDEP Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector
- Boating Experience
